PM virtually inaugurates 2 substations in Greater Noida

Noida: Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated two 132kV substations in Ecotech 8 and 10 of Greater Noida from Kanpur on Friday. The PM also laid the foundation for a 220kV substation in Yamuna Authority's Sector 28. The three projects, with a combined cost of Rs 450 crore, aim to enhance power supply in the district's industrial and residential areas. These substations were to be unveiled by the PM last month on April 24, but the programme was postponed. "I was to inaugurate several projects in Kanpur last month on April 24. But due to the Pahalgam terror attack, I had to postpone my trip to the city, and subsequently, we gave a fitting reply by way of Operation Sindoor against the Pahalgam terror attack," PM Modi said while addressing the Kanpur rally on Friday. "We had made all preparations for the PM to inaugurate these three projects in GB Nagar via video conference from Kanpur. We were asked to send video clippings of the new substations with all details in this regard, which we have already sent," Dileep Kumar Gupta, executive engineer (Transmission), UPPTCL Noida, told TOI. The 132 kV substations in Ecotech 8 and 10 were completed earlier this year and made operational in Jan. In addition to improving the quality of power supply, they are also expected to make the area more attractive to investors, officials said. Meanwhile, construction for the 220 kV substation in Sector 28 is expected to begin soon and the substation is likely to be ready by Aug 2026. According to officials, this substation will make a significant contribution to meeting the increasing power demand in the future of Sector 28 and the neighbouring areas. "Together, all the three substations will improve the overall power distribution network in Greater Noida and the Yamuna Authority area," said Sanjay Paswan, superintending engineer UPPTCL, Noida. Transmission department officials added that the 220 kV substation will prove to be important in providing power supply to the industrial, residential, and airport areas under YEIDA. PM Modi's Kanpur visit includes launching a series of projects worth Rs 47,600 crore, aimed at boosting the region's power infrastructure and urban mobility. Among the projects inaugurated and unveiled on Friday were the 660 MW Panki Power Plant, the 660 MW Neyveli Power Ghatampur Project, and the second phase of Kanpur city's metro system. The Panki power plant, a cutting-edge thermal facility, is set to substantially enhance local electricity generation. Likewise, the Neyveli Power Ghatampur project will help meet the state's growing energy demands.
