Police: No evidence of bomb after Portage mall evacuated for threat
PORTAGE, Mich. (WOOD) — An unsubstantiated bomb threat cleared a Portage mall Monday night, according to police.
The Crossroads Mall in Portage was evacuated for a bomb threat, according to the Portage Department of Public Safety. The Build-A-Bear store inside the mall was the target of the threat, officers said.
The call to report the bomb threat, which came in around 6:45 p.m., had been transferred to Portage police from Michigan State University Police. PDPS Director Nicholas Armold said it was most likely a swatting call.
Police searched the mall with a bomb-sniffing K-9 unit but did not find evidence of a bomb, according to Armold.
Since the mall was in the process of closing at the time, it remained closed for the night, he said.
