I used to come here as a kid myself,' said customer Carey Polling. 'I want to say goodbye before the store shuts down,' added family member Nicholas Dobbins. 'When I came here last week. I come here a lot. The owner told me they were closing down. Someone bought the building,' said a customer named Brown. The mall has struggled for years, facing millions of dollars in code violations and fines. Structural issues such as caved-in roofs, water damage, and mold have contributed to its deterioration. The only other tenant, Rogers Jewelers, declined to comment on its future inside the mall. Action News Jax reached out to Blackwater Development by phone and email, but has not yet received a response. 'It's really sad because this area is dying,' said customer Karen Stein. City Councilman Ken Amaro, who represents the area, has not been informed of any redevelopment plans. According to his spokesman, the new owner has not shared any plans with him. Jacksonville businesses see boost from Jazz Fest After Dark, despite concerns over new venue
Music lovers are filling The Elbow in downtown Jacksonville this weekend as the Jacksonville Jazz Festival continues into the night with its After Dark event. While the festival has drawn strong crowds, not everyone is thrilled with the event's new location. Action News Jax reporter Nicholas Brooks was downtown Saturday night and reported long lines at local businesses. He spoke with several business owners who said the festival has brought a noticeable increase in foot traffic and sales. 'Yesterday was profitable. Let's see how the rest of this weekend goes because last year was pretty freaking good,' said Julia Cordero, manager of The Circuit, a new business participating in the event. Cordero added that Friday night saw a steady stream of customers. 'We had a lot of people come in here. We had a couple bands playing.' Bands are set to perform at venues throughout The Elbow during the After Dark portion of the festival, offering a boost to nearby businesses. 'We had a steady flow of people coming in and out. It's also been a pretty good turnout as well,' said Nick Colston, an employee at That Bar at the Arena. Other local establishments echoed the sentiment, saying they typically see increased profits when events are held in town. However, not all attendees are pleased with the festival's relocation. The festival said the move was due to them expecting a larger crowd than Metropolitan Park can handle, and other previous venues being currently preoccupied with construction. Some longtime festivalgoers said they preferred previous downtown sites, citing convenience. 'I did like the other location a lot,' said Dolly Singleton. 'I love the location, but it's not the best location,' said William Steele. For those who haven't attended yet, Sunday is the last chance to enjoy this year's Jazz Fest. South Yarra: Five-car garage home that's an entertainer's paradise revs up buyers
A South Yarra house with a five-car garage is on the road to a $6.4m-$6.9m sale. The four-bedroom pad at 61 Tivoli Rd was built circa-1885 and renovated by its owners two years ago. Period features including leadlight windows, high ornate ceilings and an arched entrance hall have been retained at the double-fronted home. Marshall White Stonnington director Nicholas Brooks said one of the owners was an avid car collector and that other vehicle collectors have been attending inspections of the home, attracted by the amount of garage space that's something of a rarity in South Yarra. The abode's kitchen is fitted with Gaggenau appliances including a steam oven, integrated Liebherr fridge and freezer, two dishwashers, a marble island bench and combined butler's pantry and home office. The open-plan living and dining room leads to a paved outdoor terrace with a barbecue, solar-heated pool and large spa. Mr Brooks described the impressive set-up as much like a resort. 'The rear outdoor entertaining space is a big space with a beautiful built-in barbecue and pool,' he said. 'The first time I walked in, I could tell it was an entertainer's home and that all the guests would congregate there.' The residence also features a library and study with a marble fireplace and a main bedroom with its own marble fireplace, ensuite and built-in wardrobes. In the basement level, there's a home theatre, the fourth bedroom with wardrobes and an ensuite, a laundry with two drying cabinets and a wine display area. Other highlights include a video intercom, hydronic heating, underfloor heating, airconditioning, heated bathroom floors, indoor and outdoor speakers and a powder room. Mr Brooks said that Tivoli Rd was one of South Yarra's most sought-after streets. 'It's quiet street but with easy access to Chapel St,' he added. Expressions of interest close at 3pm on May 26.

JIA clears runway for growth with new parking garage and terminal expansion construction approved
The Jacksonville International Airport has received approval to move forward with a garage expansion that will add over 2,000 additional parking spaces. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority told Action News Jax Nicholas Brooks this is in response to rapid growth at the airport. JIA saw an all-time high of 7.6 million passengers in 2024. According to JIA, they're seeing more travelers after adding new airlines like Breeze Airways and Avelo. 'We have more new services added at our airport than we ever had and now the travelers are taking advantage of the new nonstop services,' said Vice President of Jacksonville Aviation Authority External Affairs, Michael Stewart. Travelers say they are noticing more construction at the airport. It's because of an incoming $92 million parking garage that will add 2,000 spaces. Stewart said builders received the green light Monday to begin construction on JIA's third parking garage, next to the existing daily garage. 'The garage itself is the final piece of the project that we've got going on,' said Stewart. It will also feature new restaurants and amenities for passengers. 'We're trying to keep pace with the growth,' Stewart added. I think it's important to be forward-thinking,' said traveler John Toensing. A former JIA employee said the project is long overdue. 'I used to work here. Trying to find parking was very stressful,' said Traver Stephania Denis.
