Nashville Predators vs. Dallas Stars: Live Game Thread

The Nashville Predators (29-44-8, 64 points) are ending the 2024-25 season Wednesday the same way they started it – hosting the Dallas Stars (50-25-7, 107 points) at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators have lost two straight and are 2-8-0 in their last 10. They will finish seventh in the Central Division this season, ahead of only the Chicago Blackhawks. He was assisted by his line mates, former Predators forward Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin – the latter of whom was making his return to the lineup for the first time since Dec. 1 after undergoing hip surgery. Why 'it was a gutsy road win' for Nashville Predators, Andrew Brunette vs Utah

SALT LAKE CITY − Beating the Utah Hockey Club in a shootout doesn't do much for the Nashville Predators this season − but it could help build momentum for the next one. "We hung in there," Predators coach Andrew Brunette said Thursday at the Delta Center following a 4-3 win. "It was a gutsy road win for us." The Predators were down 2-0 in the second period, then fought back to take a 3-2 lead on Ryan O'Reilly's goal at the 3:17 mark of the third period. Utah's Dylan Guenther tied the game to send it into overtime, eventually leading to Filip Forsberg's winner in the shootout. "There's no quit here," said defenseman Nick Blankenburg, who scored a power play goal in the second period. "We're just trying to build towards something at this point. We're not making the playoffs, so just trying to learn and grow through this process." The Predators, who were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention on March 27, will finish the season with the third best odds to win the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Regardless of how the final three games finish, the Predators will have an 11.5% chance to earn the top pick in the draft lottery. Next up, Nashville (29-42-8, 66 points) visits the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday (9 p.m. CT, FanDuel Sports Network). Though Forsberg's shootout winner − a slick forehand to backhand deke that easily beat Utah goaltender Karel Vejmelka − won the game for Nashville, it wouldn't have happened without some tough minutes by the Predators' penalty kill. Fedor Svechkov was called for hooking on defenseman Mikhail Sergachev with 2:10 left in overtime, forcing the Predators to fend off a 4-on-3 advantage for Utah. Defensemen Brady Skjei and Justin Barron played nearly all of that two minutes, blocking shots and jumping into passing lanes to protect goaltender Juuse Saros. Utah finished with zero shots on goal during their power play, with Barron registering three blocked shots. "We did a good job not running out of position," Brunette said of the penalty kill. "Sometimes in 4-on-3, they try to bait you out a little bit. We stayed pretty tight. I really liked our stick details." BLANKENBURG: Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg nominated for Masterton Trophy Nashville has the ninth best penalty kill in the league with an 81.1% success rate, improving upon last year's 22nd ranked unit and 76.9% success rate. "Huge blocks by (Barron) and (Skjei)," Blankenburg said. "And they say your best penalty killer has to be your goalie and (Saros) made a lot of great saves tonight." Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg nominated for Masterton Trophy

Nashville Predators defenseman Nick Blankenburg has been nominated for the 2025 Masterton Trophy. He was selected by the Nashville chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. The Masterton Trophy is awarded annually to "the National Hockey League player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey." The winner is selected among a poll of all PHWA chapters at the end of the season. Blankenburg, 26, has played in 56 games for the Predators this season after starting the season with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals. He's scored three goals and added 11 assists while playing 19:22 minutes per game. Here is the full bio of Blankenburg submitted along with his nomination: "Nothing has been given to Nick Blankenburg, everything earned. A look at the stops he's made show he's traversed North America and played in some locales and leagues not known for producing NHLers, but he kept going. Blankenburg walked on at the University of Michigan, eventually earning a scholarship for his senior year, when he also served as captain of the Wolverines. Undrafted, Blankenburg spent three seasons with Columbus, playing 55 NHL games. He signed with Nashville in the offseason and has been a regular in the lineup since being recalled in late November after starting in the AHL." Last season, the PHWA's Nashville chapter nominated Michael McCarron for the Masterton Trophy. The award went to former Predators goaltender Connor Ingram. Former forward Steve Sullivan won the Masterton in 2009, the only Predators player to win the award. BLANKENBURG COOKS: Any foodies in the room?
