Texas football player told police he was taking recruits to strip club during DWI arrest, authorities say
A football player at the University of Texas was arrested last week for driving while intoxicated, and apparently he wanted the party to keep on going. Offensive lineman Nick Brooks, who will start his college career in the fall, was stopped when he was caught doing 47 mph in a 30-mph zone, Travis County police said in their report. The report then states that Brooks' eyes were "bloodshot" and "watery," and he had admitted to smoking a "blunt" and a "good" THC pen, to the point where he was "feeling it." Brooks then told police he had recently left "Play," a 21-and-over establishment that he claimed "makes exceptions for UT Football Players." Brooks is just 18. The offensive lineman then told police, according to the documents, that he was taking "two prospective players" to a nearby strip club. Police described Brooks' speech as "mumbled" and "mushmouthed," and he was "swaying" and had "body tremors." But they said his attitude was "polite" and "cooperative." He did not have alcohol in his system. Head coach Steve Sarkisian released the following statement: "We're aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him and are gathering information. We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time." Brooks was a four-star recruit. He committed to Texas back in August and enrolled there in January after attending Grayson High School in Georgia after receiving offers from 28 other schools. His four official visits were to Texas, Georgia, Iowa and USC. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

Texas Longhorns freshman Nick Brooks arrested on DWI charge
Texas Longhorns freshman Nick Brooks arrested on DWI charge Steve Sarkisian commented on the situation and stated they are gathering information. Texas Longhorns freshman offensive lineman Nick Brooks was arrested early Sunday morning on a charge of driving while intoxicated in Austin's West 6th Street entertainment district, according to reports from the Austin American-Statesman. Brooks, 18, was booked into Travis County Jail at 2:31 a.m. and released on personal bond later that evening. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian acknowledged the incident in a statement provided to the Statesman. 'We're aware of the situation with Nick Brooks, have talked with him and are gathering information,' Sarkisian said. 'We will continue to monitor the legal process and address this situation within the team at the appropriate time.' Brooks, a four-star recruit from Grayson High School in Loganville, Georgia, is a member of Texas' top-ranked 2025 recruiting class. He arrived in Austin this spring alongside other highly touted freshmen, including wide receivers Michael Terry III, Kaliq Lockett, and Jaime Ffrench, quarterback K.J. Lacey, and defensive lineman Justus Terry Brooks chose Texas over offers from powerhouse programs such as Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, LSU, and USC, among others, committing to the Longhorns in August 2024 before signing in December. Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 353 pounds, Brooks was projected by recruiting analysts as a high-upside offensive tackle prospect. According to 247Sports, Brooks possesses 'adequate length and carries his mass relatively well considering size,' and is 'still growing into frame and developing balance/body control, which will help with occasional overcommitting and susceptibility to counters/secondary rush. Projects as a high-major offensive tackle prospect with high-floor competency and high-ceiling long-term potential' The Longhorns will kick off their 2025 campaign in Columbus, OH against the defending national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes. It's unclear what implications this will cause for Brooks as Texas Athletics continues to monitor the legal process.
