Vacant Todd Street house destroyed in early morning blaze
DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – A vacant house caught fire early Saturday morning on Todd Street. According to the Montgomery County Regional Dispatch, the fire began at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the 400 block of Todd Street. Our 2 NEWS weekend photographer spoke with Dayton Fire's District Chief, Nick Judge, on the scene. Judge said this is a property the department is familiar with. He said it is a long-time vacant house which often used by squatters, and that the department has dealt with numerous fires on this street. NATO summit has blood center seeking more donors, just in case Bystanders told the DFD a person might be in the building when they arrived. The crews went inside the heavy fire and searched, but did not discover anyone inside. 'The fire is under investigation at this time; it is suspicious in nature,' said Judge. 'The house is boarded up, but we do not have a final cause determined yet.' There were no injuries from the fire. Judge called the house a total loss and said the house will likely be put on the demolition list for the city. 2 NEWS will update this article when more information is available. UPDATE: Strong winds cause downtown Dayton building facade to crumble
The facade of a high-rise building in downtown Dayton is crumbling and falling debris has caused Dayton fire crews to evacuate the Stratacache Tower, out of an abundance of caution. Second Street on reports of a fire alarm, according to Montgomery County Regional Dispatch. >> PHOTOS: Portion of downtown Dayton high-rise crumbling According to a spokesperson with the Dayton Fire Department, the parapet wall on the top floor of 34 N. Main has had 60 feet of collapse. The building has been vacant for a number of years, according to fire crews, and was likely damaged by strong winds. Pieces of the facade are falling onto the Stratacache Tower. So far, some of the Stratacache Tower windows have been broken, but there have been no injuries. 'We still have some unsupported parts of the parapet wall,' District Chief Nick Judge said. 'We are fearful with the weather coming through with the wind, we're going to lose more of it tonight.' Pictures captured by News Center 7's Taylor Robertson show that part of a building has a hole from above a window to the roof. N. Main Street between E. Second and E.
