French bakery deploys 3D printer to craft cakes with one click
For years, the cake makers at Maison Bécam, the reputed French bakery, have required dexterity and precision when producing raspberry macarons, lemon meringue pies and crackling chocolate eclairs. Now pastry chefs only require a website on their smartphones, at least to make the base of cakes.
The bakery chain in western France is the first big name to acquire a 3D cake printer, which is being hailed by some observers as the future of patisserie. Patiss3, which costs €28,800, is able to produce an extraordinarily intricate cake base with one click.
'This is going to open up doors on [cake] design that we cannot manage by hand,' Nicolas Bécam, the founder of the bakery, told Télé Angers, the local television station.
