Emmy-winning '60 Minutes' producer speaks at University of Scranton
WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More than 700 University of Scranton students are headed off into the real world. They received their diplomas on Sunday and received words of inspiration from a former WYOU intern, now an Emmy-winning producer at 60 Minutes, Nicole Young. 'Scranton, even though it was tiny, felt really mighty,' Young stated. It's a full circle moment for Nicole Young, class of 2000 from the University of Scranton. She began her career journey at The 'U,' receiving her degree in communications. 'All of it seemed so brand new, and that was exactly what was so fascinating about it,' Young explained. As a college sophomore, Young interned at WYOU in 1997 before studying abroad in 1998. That first newsroom experience sparked a passion that eventually led her to 60 Minutes, where she's now a senior producer with 16 Emmy awards. But it all started in the Electric City. 'It felt homely, it felt safe, and it felt like a place where I had friends who became family,' Young added. The graduating class she spoke to came from all over the country and the world to don their caps and gowns at Mohegan Arena. Two week search for missing girl has tragic ending The students hail from 17 states as well as China, Ireland, and Vietnam. Young's message to these graduates wasn't just about success, but also what it takes to earn it. 'A lot of things you need in life to succeed really are the things that happen when you least expect it. I didn't know that most of life happens between your plans, in the gaps, in the messy middle,' Young continued. She reminded students that the most important part of the journey is simply staying on the path. 'So when the days are hard, when your confidence is MIA, show up. When the job is messy, show up. Because that's where life is. That's where the growth is,' said Young. 'Everything you need is already in you. You have to believe in yourself, and understand: the harder the journey, the better the story,' Young said. Young's career proves success isn't a straight line, but showing up, even when it's hard, makes all the difference. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Selling Sunset's Nicole shares truth behind Chrishell feud and filming secrets
Selling Sunset star Nicole Young has opened up on how different her life is away from the camera and revealed behind-the-scenes secrets from the hit Netflix series Selling Sunset star Nicole Young has just finished filming the latest series of the Netflix hit - and she has spilled a number of filming secrets to the Mirror. The real estate agent, 39, first appeared on the reality series in 2022, joining in season six. Since then, fans have watched as she has sold some of the hottest properties in the States. But it's been her ongoing feud with fellow realtor Chrishell Stause that has had viewers invested. Now, in an exclusive chat with the Mirror, Nicole has spilled the tea on what goes on behind the scenes and explained her view of what happened between her and her co-star. Nicole claimed the cast have "zero control" over what they film, or who they film with. She told us: "We have zero control over what we film, who we film with, or what topics of discussion are 'needed' by production for each filmed scene. "Unfortunately, we are held accountable by the public for what is and isn't filmed or shown, but that has never been something we have any control over." Opening up on the on-screen drama with Chrishell, she went on to claim: "Chrishell is incredibly astute at manipulating people and representing herself as a perpetual victim while being a snarling wolf in real life. "The most current feud between her and I that plays out in season 9 is a result of me finally snapping back to her constant and continual jabs and baseless accusations while holding up a mirror to the deep-rooted real source of her issues." Nicole admitted her job on screen "couldn't be more different" than her real-life role. "First of all, I dress very differently," she revealed. "I love fashion and always will but in real life, my professional attire is well, a hell of a lot more professional. "Also, the relationships, trust and honesty I have with my clients is top priority, always. For me, being a Realtor is about the service I provide my clients, not patting myself on the back, competing with coworkers or 'ringing the bell'." And she confessed that life on-screen is "100 times more cutthroat" than her career away from the cameras. "Nothing is as it seems," she said of reality TV. " Deciding and controlling your own narrative is completely out of your hands, and many people around you will lie and manipulate to get you to do what they want." Nicole continued: "My life outside of filming is very normal, very down to earth. I'm extremely grateful for my normal life, my husband, real friends and family and the enormous support system I have. "I have definitely benefited from countless incredible opportunities, events and experiences alike because of the show and I have accepted those with full gratitude, but in all of those situations, I am the real Nicole Young in real life, not Nicole Young the edited, manipulated version from Selling Sunset. "But it's also been a very cathartic experience for me to be able to meet so many people who may or may not have had preconceived opinions of me based on the show, and then be given the opportunity to show those people who I really am. Anyone who has met me in person immediately has a very different and positive opinion of who I really am and I'm always thankful for that." When it comes to professional advice, Nicole says she always tells people who want to purchase a property to speak to a mortgage broker or lender long before they think they are financially ready to start looking for a property. "I've been preaching this to buyers for the past decade," she said. "A mortgage broker can help you devise a financial plan to get you to where you need to be, but they cannot do that if you wait until the last minute. Preparation is key, and it's never too early to start preparing financially."
