6 hurt when armed carjacking suspect crashes with kids inside car
A brief police chase ended in a crash that left six people injured and led to two people being detained in Inglewood on Tuesday morning. According to the Culver City Police Department, officers were attempting to take an armed carjacking suspect into custody in Inglewood when he fled, but not recklessly or at a high speed. 'However, it appears he ran a red light and collided with another vehicle,' Culver City police said, adding that, in addition to the suspect, there was a woman and two children in the vehicle. 'The pursuit only lasted a couple of minutes.' None of the injuries sustained in the crash were considered to be life-threatening, authorities said. The Los Angeles County Fire Department told KTLA that firefighters arrived at the scene within four minutes of the crash, which occurred around 10:12 a.m. near the intersection of Centinela and La Brea avenues, and were assessing six patients. Video from the Citizen App shows that debris was left scattered in the intersection in the aftermath of the crash. One of the cars involved, a white BMW sedan, sustained damage to its front end. Another involved vehicle, a silver Acura SUV, appeared to have ended up on the sidewalk as a result of the collision, according to the Citizen App footage. A user captured footage of the two people being detained at gunpoint by police. The same user's footage also showed first responders taking the two injured children from the vehicle and assessing them for injuries. Nidia Becerra contributed to this report. Driver surrenders to CHP after flat tire foils getaway attempt
A man wanted for an alleged armed robbery in Bakersfield was taken into custody after a pursuit ended with a flat tire on the 10 Freeway in West Los Angeles. The California Highway Patrol said the pursuit began just before noon when they spotted a white Ford Explorer that the Bakersfield Police Department was seeking. Instead of submitting to a traffic stop, the driver took off, with officers in hot pursuit. The driver sped down the 5 and 10 freeways and through cities like Glendale and Burbank before a visibly flat front right tire appeared to slow him down at about 12:45 p.m. A couple of minutes later, the driver pulled over, beginning a standoff with CHP officers that lasted only a few moments before the man surrendered to law enforcement. His identity has not been released. Travis Schlepp, Nidia Becerra and Nancy Fontan contributed to this report. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Officers search for driver after they abandoned car during pursuit
The California Highway Patrol and other law enforcement officials are searching for the driver of a vehicle who led them on a pursuit Tuesday before they left their vehicle in the middle of a Koreatown street and took off on foot. The driver of the silver Ford Focus with front-end damage is wanted to allegedly making criminal threats, according to the California Highway Patrol. The Alhambra Police Department told KTLA the alleged threat happened yesterday, and the driver is accused of displaying a gun when making the threat. That person was spotted today in Alhambra, which is what sparked the pursuit, the APD added. When Sky5 arrived shortly after noon, the driver was on the freeway, though they quickly exited to surface streets in Pico-Union. On surface streets, the driver traveled at a relatively high speed and went through intersections and across lanes without stopping. Just before 12:15 p.m. near Koreatown, the driver pulled over and ran from the vehicle on New Hampshire Avenue near the intersection with 4th Street, leaving the car in the middle of the street. Law enforcement was continuing to search residential complexes for the driver as of just before 12:30 p.m. Nidia Becerra and Sofia Pop Perez contributed to this report.
