Bucks Dealt Concerning News on Giannis Antetokounmpo

After a third straight first-round playoff exit, including two losses to the Indiana Pacers, the biggest question the Milwaukee Bucks is facing is the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Nigerian-Greek superstar has not publicly requested a trade. Under contract until 2028 with a $62.8 million player option, Antetokounmpo has remain loyal to the franchise that drafted him in 2013 and led to a NBA championship in 2021. Advertisement But with Damian Lillard going down with an Achillies tear in Game 4 of the first-round series against the Pacers, the possibility of a franchise altering move became more likely. The Bucks have no future assets after trading away a haul for Lillard, meaning they likely won't be able to build a roster that can compete for a championship. That is not acceptable for Antetokounmpo who is in the prime of his career. "The two-time NBA MVP has not made any firm decisions on his Bucks future after the franchise's third consecutive postseason exit in the first round, but for the first time in his career, Antetokounmpo is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere, league sources told ESPN." Since their 2021 championship win, the Bucks have struggled to build a title-contending team around Antetokounmpo, who is still in his prime, averaging 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this season. The move for Lillard hasn't lived up to expectations and his recent injury has jeopardized the future of the franchise. Advertisement The Bucks are among the league's older teams, lacking young talent to either develop or trade. They are also limited by the salary cap with big chunks taken by Antetokounmpo and Lillard's $54.1 million next season. 'Any conversations surrounding the perennial All-NBA superstar and 2021 NBA champion start primarily with where he believes his long-term future lies and whether there is a franchise outside of Milwaukee that is sensible for him,' Charania wrote. What team that may be remains to be seen. Teams like the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets have become early contenders. The Draft Lottery might also become a factor in this ongoing drama. Giannis Antetokounmpo Pairs With Victor Wembanyama in Trade Idea Floated by CBS Sports Analyst

The Milwaukee Bucks' stunning collapse and subsequent brawl against the Indiana Pacers led to fans questioning whether the Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee could be heading toward its final days. The Nigerian-Greek superstar won't be an unrestricted free agent until the 2028-2029 season but the perception among some NBA fans and media is that the Bucks may have reached their ceiling with Antetokounmpo and may be willing to entertain trade offers. "They're not looking to just throw everything against the wall and see what works, they're trying to build a dynasty." Moss said that Antetokounmpo could create "pure magic" in San Antonio if he is added to a team including Victor Wembanyama, adding that the Spurs have enough young pieces to potentially make a deal with the Bucks. Insider Drops NBA News on Possible Damian Lillard Trade

The Milwaukee Bucks' 2025 season ended in stunning fashion against the Indiana Pacers for a second straight postseason. For a Bucks team that won the 2021 NBA Championship with franchise centerpiece Giannis Antetokounmpo, the future is now in doubt with no clear sense of direction. Advertisement Following an All-Star caliber season, Damian Lillard tore his Achilles tendon in Game 4 against the Pacers, knocking him out for the rest of the playoffs and possibly the 2025-26 season. Trade rumors have already begun swirling around Antetokounmpo, and the Bucks are well-short on draft picks and young talent after giving up most of their assets to land Lillard, who will be turning 35 years old in July. It appears, though, after two rocky years in Milwaukee and before suffering this potential career-altering injury, people were already beginning to talk about the Bucks potentially looking to dangle Lillard in trade talks for a major deal. Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard reacts with forward Kyle Kuzma in the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers during Game 4 of first round for the 2025 NBA Playoffs at Fiserv Forum. Benny Sieu 'Had Lillard remained healthy, and had the Bucks still fallen in the first round, league sources say there would have been discussions about whether Lillard wanted to remain in Milwaukee,' wrote Eric Nehm and Sam Amick of The Athletic. Advertisement Earning his ninth All-Star selection this season, Lillard posted averages of 24.9 points and 7.1 assists per game. Despite Lillard forming a strong bond with the Nigerian-Greek superstar, the Bucks struggled against elite teams, and Lillard's hefty cap figure posed a significant challenge heading into the offseason. "The relationship between Antetokounmpo and Lillard is strong, as is the respect level, but the imperfections of their on-court pairing remained in their second season together," Nehm and Amick wrote. "And with the group's collective limitations growing more evident by the month, a conversation was looming about whether Lillard and the Bucks might be better off parting ways." Before the Achilles injury, Lillard missed the final 11 games of the regular season after battling a frightening deep vein thrombosis injury in his right calf. Advertisement Given his injury history, the trade market that would've been for Lillard regardless of the Pacers series outcome, will likely fall by the waist side.
