RMC cracks down on illegal hoardings at city junctions

Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Tuesday conducted a special drive against illegal hoardings across several prominent areas of the city. The enforcement initiative, led by officials from the market and enforcement wings, was aimed at removing hoardings installed without mandatory No Objection Certificates (NOCs) or in violation of civic norms. Notably, TOI highlighted the menace on May 28 through a report titled 'Hoardings, a safety hazard, block line of sight for drivers'. As part of the operation, a dedicated team of officials and field staff inspected key stretches from Kutchery Chowk, Jail Chowk, Circular Road and Lalpur Chowk to Dangratoli Chowk. During the drive, a total of 15 hoardings were found to be installed illegally and were dismantled on the spot by the RMC team. In a specific instance, two hoardings installed by an ad agency were found placed away from the designated location, one above a drain and the other near an electric transformer, posing both environmental and safety hazards. Both were removed immediately. Additionally, at Jail Chowk, civic officials noticed preparations being made for the installation of a monopole hoarding without prior approval. A base structure was already constructed, which was promptly demolished as part of the enforcement action. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo RMC assistant administrator Nikesh Kumar said, "Such inspections and removals will continue across our jurisdiction in the coming days. Strict action will be taken against agencies or individuals violating advertisement norms." RMC begins allotment of space at Morabadi vendor market

Ranchi: With the allotment of vending spaces through an e-lottery on Tuesday, the Morabadi Vendor Market project took a decisive step towards organised street vending in the capital. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Once a frequent flashpoint for encroachment drives and vendor evictions, Morabadi will now see structured vending under a single roof, a move expected to decongest streets and bring stability to local vendors. Developed by the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) at a cost of Rs 1.36 crore, the market located near the Morabadi electricity office has space for 218 vendors. Of the 418 applications received in April, 169 were shortlisted. A total of 161 vendors — 27 vegetable sellers, 121 food vendors, and 21 fruit, coconut, and miscellaneous vendors — were allotted spaces in the market through a randomised e-lottery system at the RMC headquarters. Assistant municipal administrator Nikesh Kumar said, "The market will ensure systemic vending in Morabadi. Guards will be deployed for daily management, and the civic body will ensure maintenance of facilities and discipline on the premises." Additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar added, "The allotment process was conducted with full transparency. Vendors who couldn't be allotted space due to document issues can reapply through the objection process in the second phase." The RMC began allotting stalls based on an official categorisation order, which lays out eligibility criteria, including vendors surveyed in 2016, those registered under the PM SVANidhi Yojana before the cut-off date, and those who had acquired valid vendor ID cards and certificates issued by the RMC before March 5, 2022.
