CM's aide Govindaraj removed, intel chief transfered
Bengaluru: More heads rolled in the Bengaluru stampede case as Karnataka govt Friday removed MLC K Govindaraju as political secretary to chief minister Siddaramaiah and transferred ADGP (Intelligence) Hemant Nimbalkar. Official sources claimed Govindaraju's reported push to hold RCB celebrations at Vidhana Soudha may have contributed to his removal. During a press conference Thursday, CM Siddaramaiah had acknowledged lapses in intelligence over the stampede: "No decision has been made yet about what action to be taken in this regard. We will discuss it." The twin measures follow Thursday's suspension of Bengaluru City police commissioner B Dayananda and four other senior police officers. The opposition has accused the govt of shielding political functionaries and punishing only police officers. An official notification issued Friday read: "The appointment of K Govindaraju as political secretary to CM is hereby revoked with immediate effect. Accordingly, he is relieved from the post with immediate effect." On the intelligence front, ADGP S Ravi has replaced Nimbalkar. A govt order said: "Hemant M Nimbalkar, a 1998-batch IPS officer ADGP, Intelligence, is transferred with immediate effect and will continue as ADGP & Commissioner, department of information and public relations, Bengaluru." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Switch to UnionBank Rewards Card UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo Nimbalkar, who took charge as ADGP (Intelligence) last year, is married to former Congress MLA Anjali Nimbalkar. Defending the govt's move, minister Priyank Kharge said: "The officers responsible have been suspended or transferred and a judicial probe has been ordered to investigate the matter. We have made no scapegoats." Social activist Abraham TJ filed a formal complaint early Friday, demanding action against Nimbalkar, citing negligence and intelligence failure. He questioned the selective suspension of officers while the intelligence chief remained untouched. In his complaint, Abraham wrote that when the govt itself had acknowledged intelligence failure and it made no sense to act only against five police officers. He asked: "Why no action was taken against ADGP Intelligence? Is it because he is the spouse of the Congress leader?" The CM's office confirmed receipt of Abraham's complaint. Bengaluru Stampede: Karnataka ADGP Intelligence Hemant Nimbalkar Transferred, Says Source
Last Updated: The state government has yet to issue an official statement on Nimbalkar's transfer or name a replacement for the post As investigations into the Bengaluru stadium stampede continue, Karnataka's Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence), Hemant Nimbalkar, has been transferred without a new posting, sources told News18 on Friday. Nimbalkar, a 1998-batch IPS officer, was appointed as ADGP (Intelligence) by the Karnataka government just last year. His sudden transfer comes amid increasing administrative and political pressure following the stampede outside Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which left 11 people dead and many injured. The Siddaramaiah-led Karnataka government has yet to issue an official statement regarding Nimbalkar's transfer or announce a replacement for the post. Notably, Hemant Nimbalkar is married to senior Congress leader Anjali Nimbalkar, who unsuccessfully contested the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. In another development related to the stampede's aftermath, Karnataka CM's political advisor, Govindaraj, has been dismissed from his position. Sources say Govindaraj, who also heads the state Olympic association, was the key figure who pressured the Chief Minister to hold the event at Vidhana Soudha. Soon after Dayananda's suspension, IPS officer Seemanth Kumar Singh was appointed as the new City Police Commissioner of Bengaluru. The Chief Minister also had ordered the suspension of Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Vikash Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shekar H. Tekkannavar, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Cubbon Park) C Balakrishna, and Cubbon Park police station Inspector A K Girish. First Published:

Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Police are yet to ascertain the identities of these revellers. According to the police, the revellers went on dancing, making noise, and blocking Fergusson College Road and the area around Good Luck Chowk. Senior inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police station said, "We have registered a suo-motu case against the revellers for celebrating at the chowk after RCB's win in the IPL final." Police said the revellers occupied the road's carriage width all of a sudden and did not allow vehicular movement on the road despite repeated requests from them. "A large number of people gathered at the spot after the match to celebrate RCB's win. They burst firecrackers in the area packed with people, which could have turned into a tragedy," Nimbalkar said. Nimbalkar added, "We will study the CCTV cameras, including the AI-based cameras in the Chowk and on FC Road, to trace the revellers. After identifying them, we will call them to the police station for further legal action." The police said that the decision to file a case against the revellers was taken after the Bengaluru tragedy in which at least 11 people died in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru while trying to join a felicitation marking RCB's maiden victory in IPL final. A senior police officer told TOI, "After every cricket final in which either an Indian team or an IPL team wins, a large number of people gather on Fergusson College Road to celebrate the victory. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now There are indisciplined people who drive their vehicles rashly or burst firecrackers. We want to reduce this nuisance in the future, thus we decided to lodge a complaint."
