Future Nineveh: Key member warns of withdrawal
2025-05-10T05:18:55+00:00 Shafaq News / The Future Nineveh Alliance, which includes factions backed by the Shiite Coordination Framework within the Nineveh Provincial Council, is facing growing internal tensions following accusations of marginalization and political exclusion. In an audio message obtained by Shafaq News Agency, Iraqi lawmaker Wadd Qaddo, a member of the alliance, warned that continued sidelining of representatives from Hamdaniya district and Bashiqa subdistrict could lead to a formal withdrawal from the coalition. "The alliance has brought results for others, but we have yet to see any return for our efforts," Qaddo said. He pointed specifically to the situation in Bashiqa, claiming it remains under the dominance of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) despite ongoing participation by minority representatives. Qaddo also expressed frustration with Nineveh Provincial Council Chairman Ahmed al-Hasoud. "I've tried to reach him for the past two days without any response, although we had daily contact when he was facing questioning and possible dismissal," he said, describing the silence as troubling and suggestive of a breakdown in internal coordination. Issuing a direct warning, Qaddo stated, "If this continues, we will withdraw from the alliance and assume a neutral stance. We will pursue our interests with any party willing to engage—we refuse to be used as a stepping stone for others." He also cautioned that unless grievances are addressed, the alliance risks losing coherence and influence. The Nineveh Provincial Council is composed of 29 members representing a diverse array of ethnic and religious communities. The two leading blocs are the Unified Nineveh Bloc, aligned with the Sunni Arab majority and supported by the KDP, and the Future Nineveh Alliance, which includes Shabak, Yazidi, Christian, and other minority factions backed by the Shiite Coordination Framework.

Nineveh Council Chairman accused of fake degrees: Doesn't know a word of English
Shafaq News/ Iraq's Nineveh Provincial Council Chairman, Ahmad Younis Al-Hasoud, was accused by his brother, Saud Younis Al-Hasoud, of forging his academic certificates and not even knowing "a single word of English." In the past few hours, social media circulated a video showing Saud Al-Hasoud directly accusing his brother of falsifying not only his high school diploma but also his Ph.D. degree. He claimed that his brother couldn't even speak a word of English, failed six times in the sixth year of the literary track, and in the seventh year, a substitute candidate was brought in to take the exam on his behalf for a bribe of 1.6 million dinars ($1222.31) in the Makhmur town. Nineveh Council Chairman, he alleged, studied dentistry in Ukraine despite being a graduate of the literary branch, and when he returned to Iraq, he failed the certificate equivalency exam six times. He also accused him of being involved in a "crime" with a man named Khlan Al-Hasoud. However, Saud Al-Hasoud later appeared in another video, apologizing for his previous statements. 'I was in a state of emotional distress and under pressure from certain parties… I had no intention of causing harm.' He also addressed the alleged crime, saying, "I had a bird I was very fond of; my siblings killed it."

Iraqi official criticized for urging slaughter of FMD-infected livestock
Shafaq News/ On Friday, veterinary professionals, local activists, and social media users in Iraq sharply criticized a member of the Nineveh Provincial Council after he called on farmers to slaughter livestock infected with foot-and-mouth disease (FMD). A video circulating online shows Mohammed Arif Al-Shabaki urging owners of infected animals to bring them to slaughterhouses, prompting accusations of encouraging violations of veterinary health protocols. Bloggers described the remarks as 'clear incitement,' while experts warned the call could 'exacerbate the outbreak and weaken containment efforts.' The backlash comes as Nineveh grapples with a growing outbreak of FMD, which has killed hundreds of animals and led authorities to impose a week-long quarantine on 22 cattle farms, primarily in the Kokjali area east of Mosul. The crisis has also fueled public anger over alleged corruption in livestock import procedures. Council member Muadh Haji told Shafaq News that 'corruption and bribery were the main causes behind the spread of the disease,' pointing to smuggling through several checkpoints, including the Shaheed Subhan crossing at the Mosul–Erbil entrance. In response to the outbreak, the province's Health and Agriculture Committee issued a series of recommendations, including a ban on livestock entry until veterinary authorities release a clear epidemiological assessment. The committee also called for stricter enforcement of animal health laws and additional support for the veterinary hospital—covering vaccines, medicines, mobile teams, and staffing. Other recommendations included official supervision of refrigerated meat transport, compensation for affected farmers, and land allocation for temporary slaughterhouses under the oversight of local authorities.

Ahmed Dubardani, a member of the Nineveh Provincial Council's health committee, told Rudaw that the hospital is in its final stages and is 'scheduled to be handed over by the implementing company next month and officially opened.' He said that the hospital has 100 beds and is equipped with advanced medical equipment, and it will also reduce the pressure on the Kurdistan Region's hospitals. 'The opening of the hospital will reduce pressure on the Kurdistan Region and other provinces, and reduce the burden on the people, as they had to travel a long distance for treatment which required a lot of expense,' Dubardani said. As cancer rates rise in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, there is a shortage of treatment facilities. In Sulaimani province, Hiwa Hospital is the only facility offering cancer treatment, drawing patients from across Iraq and the Kurdish regions of Syria, Turkey, and Iran. Statistics from the Kurdistan Region's health ministry in November revealed that cancer rates in the Region have more than doubled over the last decade. Experts have blamed worsening air pollution in the country as the primary cause of high cancer rates.

Nineveh: Al-Hasoud returns, investigation continues
Shafaq News/ Iraq's Nineveh Provincial Council Chairman Ahmed Al-Hasoud resumed his duties on Monday after a court issued a precautionary order suspending his dismissal. Speaking at a press conference at the Provincial Council, Al-Hasoud said the Administrative Court's ruling proved his dismissal had been unjust. 'The fair Iraqi judiciary has stood by the oppressed, and we were vindicated by the court's precautionary order,' he told reporters. Al-Hasoud maintained that the session in which his removal was voted on was 'unfair,' pointing out that he would continue to pursue legal avenues until a final ruling is issued. The chairman's return to his duties follows the Administrative Court's ruling to suspend the implementation of his dismissal, which was voted on by the Nineveh Council on March 5. Al-Hasoud was previously dismissed by the Nineveh Provincial Council over reported allegations of falsifying his credentials. He challenged the decision in court, arguing the dismissal violated legal procedures. Earlier today, Iraq's Parliamentary Regions and Provinces committee called on the Supreme Judicial Council to investigate Nineveh Provincial Council Chairman Ahmed Al-Hasoud for allegedly using an unaccredited academic title in official documents. According to a letter signed by the committee's Chairman Khaled Al-Samarrai, Al-Hasoud continues to present himself as a 'Doctor' despite holding only a high school diploma. The letter also claimed that Al-Hasoud obtained a dentistry degree from Ukraine that is not officially recognized under Iraqi regulations, calling it a 'legal violation requiring judicial action.'
