Before jumping straight into the process, let's figure out what type of data you can transfer from Switch 1 to Switch 2. If you transfer your user account from your old Switch to its successor, then that particular account including linked child accounts if there are any, pre-existing user settings, applicable system settings, friend list, saved data from games excluding update date and, screenshots and videos will all be transferred as well.
Now coming to the transfer process, there are few steps to follow. First up, head to the
'System Settings Menu'
on your Switch 1 and find the
'System Transfer to Nintendo Switch 2'
option by scrolling all the way down. Upon clicking that, follow the given instructions and select the
'I Don't Have a Nintendo Switch 2 Yet'
option to upload all your data to the official cloud server storage. Remember, this data will be valid for one year on the cloud server.
After you have bought the Nintendo Switch 2, you can go to the
'System Settings Menu'
of Switch 1 and tap on the
'System Transfer to Nintendo Switch'
option again, but this time, click the
'Done'
button. However, make sure both the consoles are connected to the same network and are nearby to each other.
You can follow another process as well. After successfully setting up the Switch 2 for the first time by selecting a language, connecting to the internet, and selecting a time zone, you will get the option to transfer all your data from your Switch 1 to your Switch 2. And this is where the previously uploaded cloud server data will come into work. Thus, you can transfer all your Switch 1 data to your brand new Switch 2 without breaking any sweat.
