North Korea Inaugurates Wonsan Kalma Coastal Resort with National Ceremony

H-Tayea The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) inaugurated the Wonsan Kalma Coastal Tourist Area on June 24 with a large-scale ceremony attended by top government and Party officials, including DPRK leader Kim Jong Un. Located on the scenic Kalma Peninsula along North Korea's east coast, the resort features hundreds of newly constructed buildings designed to host up to 20,000 guests. The development includes multiple hotels, a water park, cultural and entertainment venues, and a four-kilometer stretch of beachfront, reflecting the regime's push to boost tourism and present a modernized image. In his inaugural speech, DPRK Premier Pak Thae Song praised the project as a 'monument to the people-first ideology' of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and a symbol of the country's "creative and vigorous executive abilities." He credited Kim Jong Un's vision and direct oversight for the resort's completion, highlighting its significance in the Party's broader policy of cultural and economic revitalization. Kim Jong Un cut the ceremonial ribbon and toured the new facilities, expressing satisfaction at the realization of a long-cherished project aimed at providing leisure and comfort to the North Korean people. He described the resort as a model for future tourism development and emphasized the importance of delivering a high-quality experience to both domestic and, potentially, foreign visitors. Set to open to North Korean tourists on July 1, the Wonsan Kalma resort is positioned as a flagship development in the country's bid to strengthen its tourism sector, with further projects to be announced at the upcoming Ninth Congress of the WPK. Foreign dignitaries, including the Russian ambassador and embassy staff, were in attendance at the event, which concluded with a fireworks display and artistic performances celebrating the opening of what officials described as a 'world-class coastal resort.' read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean

N. Korea completes Kalma beach resort; set for opening next month

North Korea has completed the construction of a large-scale beach resort in the eastern coastal region of Kalma, with leader Kim Jong-un touting it as one of the country's greatest feats this year, state media reported Thursday. The completion ceremony for the new Kalma coastal tourist area was held "with splendor" Tuesday with Kim in attendance, the Korean Central News Agency said. The KCNA described the new site as housing hotels and hostels capable of accommodating nearly 20,000 guests, both domestic and foreign. The resort is equipped with facilities for sea swimming, sports and recreation, as well as commercial and public catering services. The facilities are "fully equipped with all conditions and cultural life bases for providing the beauty of the scenic spot ... in all seasons, excitingly picturing a 4-km-long stretch of beach," the news outlet said. Kim cut the ribbon during the ceremony and toured the resort area, including an outdoor pool and hotels, noting that what the country has thrown energy into for a long time has become a "brilliant reality." The KCNA said Kim also expressed his deep emotion over the project, calling it one of the greatest successes this year. "The Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area should play a leading role in establishing the tourist culture of" North Korea, the KCNA quoted Kim as saying, while ordering those in charge of the resort's operation to provide the best convenience and leisure space to tourists. Kim described the Kalma resort as the first step in the development of cultural tourism in the country, saying the upcoming Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea will confirm a major plan to develop additional large-scale tourist areas in other regions "in the shortest time possible," based on lessons learned from the Kalma project. Kim was seen accompanied by his daughter, known as Ju-ae, and his wife, Ri Sol-ju, marking the first time Ri has appeared at a public event since her last media appearance at a New Year's Day arts performance on Jan. 1, 2024. Invited to the ceremony were the Russian ambassador to North Korea and members of the embassy, a sign that Russians will be among the foreign tourists expected to be brought in. The KCNA said the Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist area will start service for tourists at home July 1. (Yonhap)

North Korea to Hold Ninth Party Congress as Kim Jong Un Resets 2025 Goals

H-Tayea The Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) held an Enlarged Meeting of its Twelfth Plenary Session of the Eighth Central Committee from June 21 to 23, led by General Secretary Kim Jong Un. The gathering reviewed national progress during the first half of the year and set strategic directions for the months ahead, focusing on economic revitalization, state policy refinement, and party organizational reform. The plenary was convened at a critical moment, as the Party aims to ensure that 2025 marks a historic phase in national development. Discussions highlighted the successes achieved across key areas, including the economy, politics, defense, science, education, and culture. The WPK praised the accomplishments of the first half of the year, noting a clear momentum in national construction and policy execution aligned with the vision established at the Eighth Party Congress. Kim Jong Un delivered a major address, stressing the need for bold but realistic strategic adjustments in response to both internal progress and shifting external dynamics. His speech set the tone for updated priorities that build on achievements, confront challenges, and drive forward the nation's long-term development goals. The meeting approved a series of policy adjustments designed to intensify economic modernization, industrial growth, and comprehensive structural improvements in governance. A major decision was the unanimous approval to convene the Ninth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, a move anticipated to be a turning point in the party's future. Organizational improvements were also addressed, particularly efforts to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of basic Party units, with an emphasis on aligning Party structure with new-era development goals. In parallel, sector-specific meetings were held to align operational plans with the plenary's directives. These meetings are part of broader preparations for upcoming national milestones, including the 80th anniversaries of Korea's liberation and the WPK's founding. Leaders emphasized that these events should coincide with tangible progress toward the goals set for the Ninth Party Congress, seen as a defining moment for the WPK's trajectory. The Political Bureau convened its 25th meeting to finalize the draft resolutions and strategic directions discussed. These decisions were unanimously adopted by the plenary and are now being distributed across Party organizations as official internal guidance. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream News Shell Unveils Cost-Cutting, LNG Growth Plan Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
