Four-month-old video lands 3 behind bars in Greater Noida

Three men were arrested in Greater Noida on Monday after a four-month-old video went viral on social media on Sunday evening, allegedly showing them dragging a police barricade behind their SUV and flashing a fake pistol, police said. The 13-second video shows a man grabbing a rope after tying a police barricade to the SUV. He then dragged the police barricade at high speed along an isolated road in Greater Noida. The man who grabbed the rope also flashed a pistol that was lying on the back seat. 'After the video went viral, we took cognizance and tracked down the suspects with the help of the registration number of the vehicle seen in the video. The suspects were identified as Nishant Pandit, his brother Saurabh Pandit—both residents of Habibpur in Ecotech 3—and Aryaket Singh, a resident of Chauganpur in Ecotech 3,' said Munendra Singh, Station House Officer, Dankaur Police Station. Police said that a case was registered at Dankaur police station on Monday. 'During interrogation, Nishant and his friend Aryaket revealed that they had gone to attend a marriage in Saurabh's Mahindra Scorpio. Saurabh had received the vehicle as dowry. While returning home to Greater Noida, Aryaket allegedly tied a police barricade to the SUV using a rope and dragged it for a few kilometres near the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) in Dankaur, Greater Noida, for amusement and to record a video to show off,' he added. The SHO added, 'Nishant was driving the car at the time of the incident. The video, which was recorded by Aryaket, was downloaded by someone from his social media account, after which it went viral on Sunday evening.' Police said that Nishant and Aryaket are students at a government college in Greater Noida. 'Saurabh was arrested for providing his vehicle to Nishant, and it was revealed that the gun seen in the video was a lighter. A case of public nuisance under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered against them at Dankaur police station on Monday, and further investigation is underway,' said SHO Singh, adding that the SUV was also seized.

Poor network, heavy traffic slow down FYJC admission process across state

Pune: Four days after its revised launch, many parents continue to report problems accessing the portal for the online application process for First Year Junior College (FYJC) admissions. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Teachers said the situation is bad in the rural areas, where poor internet connectivity and limited access to resources are making the process even more difficult. Director of secondary and higher secondary education Mahesh Palkar said, " We met on Thursday and all education officers were instructed to tell headmasters of secondary schools to open a guidance centre in their schools. Problems are arising because students don't know how to fill up the form. Within a day, all schools will start guidance centres to help their students to fill up the forms. This will streamline the process. " It has been a rough time, Nishant, a parent, said. He had a harrowing experience despite having high-speed internet access at home. "I was anxious when the forms were not getting submitted. I cannot imagine what children from rural areas are facing. I have been trying to fill up the forms since Monday, but there were a host of problems. I made three payments and was able to get confirmation only on the last one despite money getting debited three times. I am waiting for the refund. Part II of the form was not opening for a long time. It did last night. There is complete lack of clear instructions. The helpline numbers are useless. They all go into call waiting and finally get auto-disconnected. I have tweeted about this to the CM as well as the education minister," he added. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Ahmednagar-based Kakasaheb Walunjkar, a quality inspector in Rayat Shikshan Sanstha with 70 schools under him, said that he knows of cases where not even a single form could be submitted the whole day. He said either the website is not working, or there is no internet in the area. Students who live in remote places come to the nearest cyber cafes to get their forms filled but struggle in the monsoon. "Despite spending money and sitting for hours, their forms don't get submitted, or their payment gets debited but there is no confirmation. All this is leading to chaos. Govt should have ensured that when they rolled out the portal the second time, the work was smooth and there were enough people appointed for problem-solving," he added. Urban places like Panvel and Navi Mumbai also face similar problems, said Tushar Mhatre, a teacher from Navi Mumbai. "Children from urban poor families are spending hard-earned money in cyber cafes with no output. Not everybody knows about online payment, so these cafes are also fleecing them," he added. Head: 7.4L Register On Portal The admission process set to begin on May 21 was mired in technical issues that caused the website to crash the very first day Officials were forced to revise the schedule and push the start date to May 26 By Thursday afternoon, 7.41 lakh students registered on the portal against a vacancy of 18.87 lakh seats in 9,375 junior colleges and schools offering Std XI and XII across the state There are delays in submitting Part 2 of the form, payment issues, and the monsoon is adding to the chaos for students in rural areas who cannot reach the nearest cyber cafes A teacher helping in the process said in some cases, only two forms get submitted in an entire day due to weak network and the website struggling under heavy traffic

Bengaluru man allegedly assaulted by Zepto delivery agent, suffers skull fracture

A Bengaluru-based businessman has alleged that he was physically assaulted by a grocery delivery agent during a confrontation outside his residence in Judges Colony of Basaveshwaranagar. The incident reportedly took place on the afternoon of May 21 following a disagreement over a Zepto order. The complainant, 30-year-old Shashank S, claimed the altercation began when his sister-in-law attempted to collect the delivery at the gate and found a mismatch in the address. The argument allegedly escalated, prompting Shashank to intervene, the Times of India reported. According to his statement, the delivery agent, identified as Vishnuvardhan, verbally abused him before launching a physical attack, punching him in the face and head multiple times before fleeing the scene. Shashank has alleged, he later sought medical treatment and was diagnosed with a skull fracture. Doctors have not ruled out the possibility of surgery if the injury does not improve within a week, he added. Shashank subsequently posted details of the incident, along with CCTV footage, on Instagram, urging the delivery platform to take accountability, the report added. However, Zepto, in a brief response, expressed regret over the incident and assured that professional conduct remains a priority and the matter will be addressed. 'We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us, we'll make sure this is addressed,' said Zepto Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. An investigation is currently underway. Earlier in February, a routine food delivery took a violent turn in Ghaziabad after a food delivery agent turned aggressive over a brief delay in receiving the order. The incident began when Aadhar Choudhary ordered food through a delivery app. The delivery agent, identified as Nishant, arrived at his residence shortly afterwards. However, Aadhar, who was on a long phone call, did not answer Nishant's repeated calls immediately. Angered by the delay, the food delivery agent allegedly initiated an argument that soon escalated. In a disturbing escalation, Nishant allegedly called a group of six men from his village, Sikrod, who then arrived and assaulted Aadhar and another man named Prince, who was also present at the house. The altercation, which involved firearms, knives, and sticks, is under police investigation and has raised alarm over rising instances of violence linked to delivery services.

26-year-old man kills brother (28), arrested in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: A 26-year-old man was arrested on Monday night for allegedly shooting his older brother to death during a fight. According to police, the deceased Vikrant (28), a resident of Niwari village, was a career criminal with 13 cases of theft, robbery, and assault registered against him. He had previously been sent to jail in a theft case and had been released on bail six months ago. His brother Nishant, who worked at a gas agency in the area, lived in Niwari with his wife and their mother Poonam Devi. Vikrant would visit home once or twice a week. ACP (Modinagar) Gyan Prakash Rai said that there were tensions between Vikrant and the family due to him repeatedly asking his mother and brother for money to buy alcohol. During questioning, Nishant told cops that around 10pm on Monday night Vikrant asked Poonam for money again and when she refused he began to verbally abuse her. This led to a fight between the brothers and Vikrant pulled out a gun. A scuffle broke out and Nishant managed to grab the gun from him and shot Vikrant several times. He was shot in the head, arm, and chest. Hearing the gunshots, neighbours gathered at the scene and called the police. A team reached the spot and brought Vikrant to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. Nishant was later arrested from his residence. An FIR has been registered against Nishant under BNS section 103 (murder). Police have also recovered the pistol from the accused's possession.

Pirated NCERT books worth ₹2.4 cr seized, 3 arrested

New Delhi, The Delhi Police has busted a major piracy racket by seizing over 1.7 lakh pirated NCERT textbooks worth more than ₹2.4 crore and arresting three persons, including a father-son duo, an official said on Monday. The accused have been identified as Prashant Gupta and his son Nishant Gupta , and Arvind Kumar. "Prashant and Nishant had a shop where police found a large stock of pirated educational books being sold under the guise of genuine NCERT material. The racket was unearthed following a tip-off received by the police on May 16 regarding the sale of pirated NCERT books from a shop on Mandoli Road," Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam said in a statement. He further said the raid was conducted and officials from NCERT were also roped in to authenticate the materials. During the raid at Anupam Sales, police found a large stock of pirated educational books being sold under the guise of genuine NCERT material. The shop was being operated by the father-son duo who were taken into custody, read the statement. "Twenty-seven pirated Social Science textbooks for Class 12 were recovered from the shop. The books bore forged NCERT emblems and counterfeit signatures, making them appear authentic. On-site verification by NCERT confirmed the material was counterfeit and violated the Copyright Act," said the DCP. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the counterfeit books were sourced from a warehouse in Hiranki near Alipur in Delhi. Acting on this information, police raided the disclosed site and recovered approximately 1.7 lakh pirated books, valued at over ₹2.4 crore. The premises, owned by Arvind Kumar, had been rented and used for stocking the pirated books. An NCERT team at the site confirmed that the entire consignment violated copyright norms, the officer said. During interrogation, Gupta admitted to having operated their shop for over two decades, with Nishant joining the business five years ago. Lured by easy profits, the duo began purchasing pirated books from suppliers. "Based on the confession, a follow-up raid was conducted at a storage unit. An FIR under Section 318 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Copyright Act was registered at MS Park Police Station. All accused are arrested and legal proceedings are underway," said the DCP. Police are now expanding the scope of the investigation to trace the entire supply chain involved in the manufacture, distribution and sale of counterfeit NCERT books. This includes identifying illegal printing presses, transport intermediaries and possible collusion by wholesale distributors or local vendors.
