Police yet to record statements from Pamela Ling's children
KUALA LUMPUR: Police are still in the process of recording statements from other witnesses, including the children of Datin Seri Pamela Ling, who was reported missing on April 9. As of Tuesday, the police have recorded statements from 16 people, including the victim's husband. However, her children, who are in Singapore, have yet to have their statements taken. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed that the process is ongoing. "Still in progress, no further developments," he said today. It was reported that Ling's lawyer had urged police to step up efforts to locate her. Datuk N. Sivananthan said his client, who had been assisting the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in a money laundering investigation, has three children, two of whom are minors. There are also reports that Ling and her Sarawak-based businessman husband, who are in the midst of a contentious divorce involving a sizeable estate, are being investigated by the MACC. Yesterday, Rusdi had said one of the angles being investigated is the possibility that the incident surrounding Ling's disappearance was staged. Rusdi added that police are confident Ling is still alive and remains in the country. At least five vehicles were involved in the initial confrontation before her disappearance, including a Toyota Camry, Nissan Almera, and Nissan Teana.

Lawyer calls police's self-abduction theory a 'smokescreen' to deflect delays
KUALA LUMPUR: The lawyer representing Datin Seri Pamela Ling's family says the self-abduction theory offered by the police is a 'smokescreen' and an attempt to deflect from investigative delays during the early days of her disappearance. "Surely the police are aware that Ling is a mother of three, one of whom suffers from a serious medical condition requiring regular treatment, failing which it could be fatal if not treated promptly," Sangeet Kaur Deo said in a statement today. She asked whether the police were seriously suggesting that Ling had knowingly abandoned her ill child, fully aware of the consequences. She added there was "no basis" for the theory and that it appeared to be an attempt to deflect from the investigative delays in the crucial early days. "Why not disappear earlier, instead of duly attending not less than nine times for Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) questioning? "Why disappear two days after filing a judicial review application against the MACC, wherein she has detailed her allegations of abuse of power?" she questioned. On the use of cloned licence plates linked to Ling's suspected abduction, Sangeet questioned whether investigators had reviewed CCTV footage from her temporary residence in Cheras to determine if she was being followed. She also raised concerns about whether toll records were properly examined to trace the vehicles' movements or identify the RFID or Touch 'n Go cards used. "Why are these fundamental steps still in question? The family deserves proper updates from the authorities, and they should not have to rely on fragmented media reports to piece together what should be transparently shared with them," she said. City police chief, Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa, yesterday had said one of the angles being investigated is the possibility that the incident surrounding Ling's disappearance was staged. Rusdi added that police are confident Ling is still alive and remains in the country. At least five vehicles were involved in the initial confrontation prior to her disappearance, including a Toyota Camry, Nissan Almera, and Nissan Teana.

Police: At least eight involved in Pamela Ling's abduction
KUALA LUMPUR — Police investigations have found that at least eight individuals travelling in five vehicles were involved in the abduction of Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh (picture) in Putrajaya on April 9. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the finding was based on a review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area. 'From the CCTV footage, we found that three vehicles — a Toyota Camry, Nissan Almera and Nissan Teana — blocked the path of the e-hailing car in which Ling was travelling, while two other cars acted as lookouts. 'Three individuals then exited the vehicles that had blocked the e-hailing car, instructed the victim to get out, and directed her into one of the waiting vehicles. 'All the cars involved were later seen taking two different routes out of Putrajaya,' he said at a press conference here today. Rusdi added that the CCTV footage also confirmed that two of the individuals involved were wearing vests resembling those used by members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). — BERNAMA
