Red faced Phil Mickelson rinsed as LIV Golf star left munching humble pie after social media howler

It didn't take long for the American star's prediction on Scottie Scheffler to backfire spectacularly Phil Mickelson was forced to chomp humble pie after a social-media howler. The LIV Golf star was left looking daft after Scottie Scheffler scorched to a blistering eight-shot success at the CJ CUP Byron Nelson. ‌ After the World No.1's slowish start to 2025, Mickelson posted a recent critique which read: 'Here's a hot take. Does Scottie win in 2025 before The Ryder Cup? I don't think so.' ‌ Former Masters champion and TV broadcaster Trevor Immelman was straight onto that comment at the time by replying: 'Phil, this is not just hot, it's scalding! Let's all keep a receipt on this and revisit throughout the season.' It didn't take long for Mickelson to proved spectacularly wrong as Scheffler raced to his remarkable weekend success in Texas. To his credit, the six-time Major winner returned to his social-media platform in the wake of the World No.1's win and accepted: 'So I might of been off on that one. Congrats to Scottie on a great performance.' As Scheffler was winning the Byron Nelson, Mickelson was in Korea competing in a LIV event where he finished 50th in the tournament won by Bryson DeChambeau.
