Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the Giants' ballpark, team CEO says

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Barry Bonds will be getting a statue outside the San Francisco Giants' home stadium where he set baseball's career home run record, the team's CEO said Thursday. Giants President and Chief Executive Officer Larry Baer was asked during a radio interview about a statue for Bonds, and he responded that it was 'on the radar." But Baer didn't have any details of when that would happen. Advertisement 'Barry is certainly deserving of a statue, and I would say should be next up,' Baer said during an appearance on San Francisco's 95.7 The Game. 'We don't have the exact location and the exact date and the exact timing. ... It's coming. All I can say is it's coming.' Bonds played for San Francisco the last 15 of his 22 big league seasons, hitting 586 of his 762 homers while with the Giants from 1993-2007. He set the single-season MLB record with 73 homers in 2001, and hit his record-breaking 756th homer to pass Hank Aaron in a home game off Washington's Mike Bacsik on Aug. 7, 2007. There are currently five statues outside Oracle Park, those of Hall of Famers Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry and Orlando Cepeda. The Giants retired Bonds' No. 25 jersey in 2018. Bonds, a seven-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, is not in the Hall of Fame. He failed to reach the 75% threshold required during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers Association of America's Hall of Fame ballot, mostly because of steroids allegations that dogged him during his final years with the Giants. The Contemporary Player Committee also passed on electing Bonds in 2022, though the committee could reconsider Bonds' status. ___ AP MLB: The Associated Press

Michael Strahan tosses gifted Eagles jersey in new GMA video: ‘You wish' Philly

Michael Strahan refused to accept a custom jersey from the Eagles during 'Good Morning America' on Thursday. The former All-Pro pass rusher, who won a Super Bowl with the Giants during his 15-year NFL career with New York, was jokingly gifted a No. 25 jersey with his name on it by the Eagles and he held it up for the camera. 'All I can say is, you wish!' Strahan said before he tossed the jersey at the floor. Advertisement 'Hope you kept the receipt, guys 😅,' GMA wrote on Instagram, including a clip of Strahan, who's been a co-anchor on the show since 2016. The Eagles gifted Strahan the jersey as joked before their visit to 'GMA' to promote the Eagles Autism Foundation on Friday. Advertisement April is also Autism Acceptance Month. Porsche Penske No. 7 Wins at Long Beach to Extend Season Opening Streak to Three in a Row

Nick Tandy and Felipe Nasr are officially tied for the longest opening streak to a season in IMSA's modern prototype era, as the two full-time drivers of the No. 7 Porsche 963 have won the opening three rounds of the 2025 season. Their sprint win in the 100-minute Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach joins their second consecutive 24 Hours of Daytona, followed by the 12 Hours of Sebring last month. Their Porsche teammates in the No. 6 finished in second for the second Porsche Penske 1-2 of the season. Nasr was the closing driver and, after some earlier battling with his teammate in the No. 6, was able to pull away to a 3.058-second victory at Long Beach. After winning the 24 Hours of Daytona last year, Porsche Penske went on to win the championship, but their start was still not nearly as hot as it is in 2025. The No. 7 team dominated what Tandy calls a flawless race. The British-born driver, while Facetiming his kids after the race, shared that his young son Felix credited the win to Nasr's energy management. "He said, 'Awesome job of energy management for Felipe,'" Tandy joked. "Honestly, that's what won the race. Short stop and awesome management. Flawless, again. I love it." While the drive wasn't flawless, with Tandy and Nasr admitting to making major saves to stay out of the barriers, the start of the season is. "Incredible," Nasr told NBC Sports on his teammate's save. "I had one as well right after the pit stop when we went green. I had a moment in I think [turn] 8 where I lost the rear and saved it. It was tricky out there, it's difficult to keep the car in one line, once I found my pace I just kinda stayed there." On the flip side, the first sprint race of the 2025 season for Team RLL's duo of BMW M Hybrid V8s followed the same script as the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring this year, where high expectations and pole positions ended with the No. 24 and No. 25 entires finishing behind the Porsche Penskes. The No. 24 piloted by Dries Vanthoor led the opening part of the race before the only pit stop taken by leaders, a slow pit stop during a caution, only 30 minutes in was enough to send BMW back to third. Philip Eng was the closing driver for the No. 24 and completed the podium after the lead was lost on the pit stop. The BMW team was followed by Earl Bamber and Jack Aitken in the No. 21 Action Express Racing Cadillac V-Series and then their teammates Marco Wittman and van der Linde in the No. 25 to complete the overall top five. In its 100-minute North American debut, the Aston Martin Valkyrie had its season-best finish of eighth behind the Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillacs in sixth and seventh. Marc Fogel attends Penguins-Blue Jackets game

Butler County native Marc Fogel attended Friday night's Pittsburgh Penguins game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Oakmont native returned to the U.S. last month after spending three and a half years in a Russian penal colony. He was greeted by head coach Mike Sullivan and gifted a No. 25 jersey bearing his name. Fogel also gave a brief statement Saturday night, thanking the team for its support. "I want to express my heartfelt thanks to the Pittsburgh Penguins organization for their generous support - an extension of this amazing city's warm, close-knit community that has rallied around our family during the toughest of times," Fogel said. "The incredible kindness shown by the Pittsburgh sports teams, along with the tremendous help from our local media, community leaders, politicians, artists, academics, advocates and activists strengthened my mentality to keep on keepin' on like a true Pittsburgher." With Fogel's return home, his attorney, Sasha Phillips, recently said Fogel will spend time with his family and loved ones, catching up on the experiences he missed while imprisoned.
