Back when Best Buy sold DVDs, they had bins loaded with DVDs for discount prices. Not all of the titles available were winners, but if you dug through the copies of 'Howard the Duck,' 'Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch,' or Carrot Top's 'Chairman of the Board,' you could find films like, 'No Country for Old Men' or 'The Shawshank Redemption.' Advertisement Digging through discount bins is similar to scouring the waiver wires — sometimes, when you dig deep enough, you find something of value. Though the Marlins' pitching staff owned a 5.29 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, .262 opponents' average and had the sixth-fewest strikeouts in the majors, Roto Rage recommends doing a bargain-bin hunt in Miami.

New on Paramount Plus in June 2025 — all the new shows and movies to watch

Paramount Plus adds tons of new shows and movies every month, and this June is no different. Well, it's maybe a little different. The slate of new original shows and movies is very light this month. The science-fiction love story "Love Me" is the big movie hitting the streaming service this month, making its streaming debut on June 16. But aside from that, it's all about the older, licensed shows and movies that Paramount Plus is adding this month. The good news is that the movies Paramount Plus is adding to its library this month are excellent. There's "Reservoir Dogs," "No Country for Old Men," "Whiplash" and more. You could just watch Paramount Plus movies this month and be content — the list is that good. Here's everything new on Paramount Plus this month, starting with our top picks. When I say "Love Me" features an intimate cast, I'm not exaggerating. This post-apocalyptic romance movie stars just two incredible actors: Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun. This sci-fi romance takes place long into the future, and humanity has gone extinct. But when a weather buoy (Stewart) comes across a passing satellite, it becomes self-aware, declaring itself "Me" and naming the passing satellite "Iam." They then, at Me's insistence, form a friendship and develop personas based on the social media channel of an influencer named Deja and her husband Liam. This relationship then turns into something more, but that brings complications. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. Premieres June 16 on Paramount Plus The Tony Awards recognize the best in the world of Broadway theater. This year, the 78th Annual Tony Awards will kick off on June 8 at 8 p.m. ET, hosted by "Wicked" star and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo. Leading the pack with 10 nominations are "Buena Vista Social Club," "Death Becomes Her" and "Maybe Happy Ending," all three of which are competing for Best Musical. But I'll be keeping an eye on the Best Performance categories to see if Sarah Snook can win for her performance as every character in "The Picture of Dorian Gray". Premieres live on June 8 at 8 p.m. ET on Paramount Plus "Reservoir Dogs" has an incredible ensemble cast. The crime drama stars Harvey Keitel as Mr. White, Tim Roth as Mr. Orange, Michael Madsen as Mr. Blonde, Chris Penn as "Nice Guy" Eddie Cabot, Steve Buscemi as Mr. Pink, Lawrence Tierney as Joe Cabot, Edward Bunker as Mr. Blue and director Quentin Tarantino as Mr. Brown, the final of the eight bank robbers whose heist goes horribly wrong. You never see the heist, though. In fact, you only see this group of men together once. After breakfast at a diner, the heist goes off and only Mr. White and Mr. Orange make it to a warehouse rendezvous with Mr. Pink. This is Quentin Tarantino's best movie, so don't miss it now that it's on Paramount Plus. Scots noir is sharp, witty and a wee bit SNP. What would Taggart say?

*** HEAVEN knows what DCI Taggart would have made of the police officers in Netflix's new crime drama. With their edgy haircuts, vintage duds, and impossibly youthful looks, they look like escapees from a hipster magazine fashion shoot rather than cops. 'Only in Edinburgh,' Maryhill's finest would likely growl before tearing back to Glasgow. Dept Q has Edinburgh and Scotland running right through it, which is a neat trick given it is based on a series of Copenhagen-set novels by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen. Netflix was also reportedly considering Boston for the location, but Edinburgh got the gig. Smart choice. Ditto the casting of Matthew Goode as DCI Carl Morck. On the face of it, Morck is just another grumpy maverick, but Goode adds charm and vulnerability to the mix when the occasion demands. As for the rest of the cast, almost every cool Scottish actor you can think of has received call-up papers, including Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men), Mark Bonnar and Jamie Sives (Guilt), Kate Dickie (Red Road), Chloe Pirrie (Shell), Shirley Henderson (Bridget Jones - and that's just in the first three (of nine) episodes. Read more The tale opens with Morck back at work after a long spell off. A seemingly routine shout he and his partner (Ives) attended went catastrophically wrong, leaving Morck to pick up what is left of his career. His boss (Kate Dickie) sends Morck off to a new cold case unit, Dept Q. Holed up in a basement office among the broken desks and chairs, it looks like Morck is heading for the skip, too. Then he comes across the case of a missing lawyer (Chloe Pirrie) and is intrigued. If he can find out what happened to the advocate, mend relations with his troubled son, and convince his therapist (Kelly Mac) he's not such an arrogant so-and-so after all, things might just be okay again. After a cracking start the pace slows, and for long stretches little seems to be happening. There's some funny business going on with the timeline, and now and then the dialogue turns clunky, as if something has been lost in translation. And while we are at it, who ordered another maverick detective? A little classiness goes a long way in smoothing over such faults, and this adaptation by Scott Frank (The Queen's Gambit) has it to spare. Edinburgh, washed in blues and greys, looks moody and magnificent. The cast spark off each other as if they've worked together for most of their careers (as some probably have). Best of all, the writers have gone their own, defiantly Scottish, way with the material. The bleak outlook, the barbed humour, the slagging of Morck for being English - it's all here and funny with it. Is this the first attempt at nationalist noir we see before us? Dept Q is too savvy for that, but it has its moments when anything seems possible, and that's entertaining enough for now.

Chris Evans misses ovation as he skips film premiere for heartwarming reason

Captain America actor Chris Evans didn't join Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Charlie Day at Cannes Film Festival this week for the premiere of Ethan Coen's Honey Don't! Actor Chris Evans has revealed why he missed his new film's premiere earlier this weekend. He was noticeably absent when the rest of the leading cast and director Ethan Coen were met with applause at its recent debut screening. The upcoming film Honey Don't! had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival on Friday night ahead of its theatrical release later this year. It was part of this year's Midnight Screenings schedule of the annual event in France. ‌ Chris, 43, was absent from the screening at Grand Théâtre Lumière in convention centre Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, where the festival is held. He also wasn't with his co-stars Margaret Qualley, Aubrey Plaza and Charlie Day at a subsequent photocall for the film later on yesterday. ‌ The actor - best known for playing Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - confirmed his absence from the festival in a post on his Instagram Story today. He told his followers on the platform that he had been celebrating his mother Lisa Evan's milestone 70th birthday instead. Alongside a photo of his colleagues, Chris wrote earlier: "I wish I could've been with my incredible cast and filmmakers at Cannes, but it was my mother's 70th birthday and there are some things you just can't miss! Congrats everyone!" Margaret leads the cast of Honey Don't! in the role of Honey O'Donahue, a private detective who looks into a series of deaths connected to a "mysterious" church. Chris is said to play a "charismatic cult guru" in the upcoming film. The premiere at Cannes Film Festival took place earlier this weekend, with director Ethan, 67, and his co-writer Tricia Cooke joined by some of the cast for it. And there was a standing ovation that lasted more than six minutes following the screening of the film in the early hours of Saturday. ‌ Ethan - known for films like No Country for Old Men (2007) - thanked the audience for their support. He told those in attendance at the screening: "Thank you all so much. That's so gratifying. We're so happy you liked the movie." Margaret - who starred alongside Demi Moore in the film The Substance (2024), which won an Oscar in March - also expressed gratitude over the reception. Amid applause, she told fans: "Thank you guys so much. I love you guys." ‌ Honey Don't! was just one of the films screened in Cannes after this year's festival launched last week on May 13. Others shown during the festival included the History of Sound and the Mastermind, which both star actor Josh O'Connor. This year's Cannes Film Festival came to an end last night in the city, with Honey Don't! having been the final Midnight Screening. The festival had run for 12 days this month and concluded with its Closing Ceremony.

‘Honey Don't!' noir brings Ethan Coen's inventive violence to Cannes

CANNES: Ethan Coen, one half of the renowned Coen brothers, had to get even more creative when imagining how to kill off characters for 'Honey Don't!,' his new spin on 1940s LA noir starring Margaret Qualley. 'It's a challenge because we got a lot of good minds out there thinking about it all the time. So it's hard to come up with new ways,' the director told Reuters at the Cannes Film Festival. 'It sounds strange to say, but you want to make the violence fun, not just some like weird sadistic thing for some reason,' he added ahead of Friday evening's premiere. The Coen brothers are known for their notional plot lines juxtaposed with shock violence in films such as 'Fargo' and 'No Country for Old Men,' both of which earned them Oscar awards. In just one example, as seen in the 'Honey Don't!' trailer, a man has a fork violently rammed into the bottom of his chin. 'Somehow I think it (violence) kind of transcends sadism by virtue of its inventiveness,' added Coen, who said he was aiming to capture the feel of friend and fellow director Sam Raimi's early films, which includes cult horror classic 'Evil Dead.' Qualley stars as the Bakersfield, California-based sharp-tongued and seductive private investigator Honey O'Donahue, who gets tangled up with a cult while looking into a woman's death. 'Captain America' actor Chris Evans plays a crooked preacher, while Aubrey Plaza of 'The White Lotus' is Qualley's romantic interest and Charlie Day a homicide detective. 'We wanted to make a film noir that had a lesbian lead character' because there aren't many of those, especially compared with the number of ones with heterosexual characters, Tricia Cooke, Coen's co-writer and wife, told Reuters. Coen and Cooke said they immediately felt it was the right choice to cast Qualley, initially for their similar lesbian cross-country road trip caper 'Drive-Away Dolls' that marked Ethan Coen's first solo film without his brother Joel. 'We thought after we met her, well, she'll be good for 'Drive-Away Dolls,' but she'll be great for this other script we had written even then,' Coen added. Shooting sex scenes between Qualley and Plaza was not a challenge, as they both really liked each other, said Coen. They decided to set the film in Bakersfield, which is less well-off than Los Angeles, as part of the revamp of the genre. 'It Was Just An Accident' by Iran's Jafar Panahi wins Cannes' top prize LA has been patented by crime fiction writer Raymond Chandler, and that is its own kind of detective story, said Coen. 'We wanted to do it and not glamorous LA, but very much California, the inland desert,' added Coen, with the idea being to capture the bleakness that inhabits those locations. 'Honey Don't!,' which received lukewarm reviews from critics at Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, is set to hit U.S. theatres on August 22.
