Woman left with £27,000 bill after dream holiday turns to nightmare over simple error
Woman left with £27,000 bill after dream holiday turns to nightmare over simple error A mistake in Margaret Houghton's travel insurance has left her with a hefty bill Margaret was struck down with pneumonia while away in Egypt A grandmother who contracted pneumonia while on holiday in Egypt is now facing a hefty hospital bill after her family forgot to declare some of her health conditions to their insurers. Margaret Houghton, 65, from Warrington, Cheshire, was enjoying a dream family getaway to Egypt when she fell ill with pneumonia during the final week of their two-week stay. She was taken to Sharm Peace Hospital in Sharm El-Sheikh, where her family was stunned to learn their travel insurance wouldn't cover all of her medical expenses, which have already surpassed £27,000, despite having paid a £165 premium for the policy. The family is now desperately trying to gather funds to cover Margaret's medical costs, as she may require a further two weeks in hospital due to a subsequent bacterial infection. Stay informed on the latest health news by signing up to our newsletter here . Margaret's daughter-in-law, Aileen Houghton, 41, explained that the travel insurance firm No Limits, which provides policies for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions, discovered inconsistencies when they checked Margaret's GP records. Margaret was on a dream holiday to Egypt with her husband Dave, three grandchildren, and daughter Aileen said: "My sister-in-law filled in all the travel insurance to the best of her knowledge, she's not a dishonest person, she's not like that. The travel insurance have reviewed the full GP record and my sister-in-law's mistakenly missed off some conditions, unrelated as far as I can tell as to why she's in hospital.", reports Lancs Live. Article continues below "They've said she's paid £165 and if the conditions were on it would have been £245, so it's been under-declared by 32% and they're only willing to pay 67% of the bills. My mother-in-law's on disability benefits – she doesn't have thousands of pounds, none of us do. "We've tried appealing to the travel insurance, but they're not willing to do anything. My mother-in-law is struggling to get well because she's stressing about everything and the whole family's just starting to fall apart, to be honest." Aileen explained that her mother-in-law Margaret had an extensive medical history including atrial fibrillation, esophageal dysmotility, bladder dysfunction, fibromyalgia, depression, and GORD – none of which had been disclosed to insurers – with her daughter Kate having only entered diagnoses of COPD, type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart failure on the forms. The family has already collected over £3,000 using the fundraising platform GoFundMe – yet they still face a significant bill of at least £8,600. Now, Margaret's husband Dave and daughter Kate, who have been commuting over two hours each day to visit her, risk being fined for overstaying their Egyptian visas due to an oversight in renewal. Concerned about the financial repercussions, Aileen added: "We're worried because none of us are rich, people's jobs aren't secure. If we wipe out every bit of savings any of us have got, if one of us gets made redundant we won't be able to make mortgage payments." Article continues below No Limits Travel Insurance has yet to respond to requests for comment. The GoFundMe page is accessible here.

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A former WWE star is slated to step back into the squared circle and work another match. Not only is this a return match, but one that will be her first one in 15 years. Queen Sharmell Sullivan-Huffman, widely recognized by WWE fans as Queen Sharmell, is poised to make a surprising return to in-ring competition after a hiatus of sixteen years. The WWE Hall of Famer is scheduled to step back into the squared circle at Reality of Wrestling's No Limits event on May 10, 2025. This announcement has generated considerable buzz, particularly considering Sharmell's last official match took place in 2009 during TNA's First Impact Tour, after which she transitioned into more behind-the-scenes roles within the wrestling industry. Sharmell's initial break into the business in WWE in 2001 was with aspirations of becoming an active wrestler and backstage interviewer. She was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW) to hone her skills, where she managed The Suicide Blondes under the moniker Sister Sharmell. Her in-ring training was prematurely curtailed due to an injury, forcing her to step away from active competition. She served as a backstage interviewer on SmackDown! in late 2001 and early 2002, showcasing her on-screen presence in a non-wrestling capacity. A former employee Janel Grant accused McMahon, 78, of sexual assault and sexually trafficking her. MoreHer return to WWE in 2005 marked a significant shift in her on-screen persona. Debuting as the initial face valet for her husband, Booker T, Sharmell soon embraced a heel turn alongside him, becoming a big element of his character. Booker T claimed the King of the Ring crown and adopted the King Booker gimmick. It was during this memorable era that Sharmell fully embodied the role of Queen Sharmell. As the queen, she became a heel manager. Booker feuded with the likes of Kurt Angle and The Boogeyman during this time. Following their departure from WWE in the fall of 2007, Sharmell continued to work alongside Booker T in TNA Wrestling, maintaining her role as his manager. Beyond her managerial duties, Sharmell and Booker T also established their own wrestling promotion and training academy, Reality of Wrestling (ROW), based in Houston, Texas. Sharmell's contributions to the industry, particularly her iconic portrayal of Queen Sharmell, were formally recognized in 2022 with her induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
