Nolan Brass' day was golden, Byron overpowers NIC-10 leader Freeport
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Big Northern Conference champion Byron Tigers have been impressive all season. Saturday in Freeport they posted another impressive win by knocking off NIC-10 leader Freeport 15-2 in a five-inning Nolan Brass led the way for the Tigers. He had four hits in four at-bats including a home run. He drove in five runs. He also was the winning pitcher. He went four innings giving up two runs on four hits while striking out four Talbert, playing shortstop, had a pair of hits, a walk, a stolen base, he scored three runs, and he drove in two runs. Catcher Weston Auker had three hits, and he drove in a run. Dawson Criddle had a hit, a walk, and he drove in two Tigers also benefited from control issues by four Freeport pitchers. Seven Bryon batters were hit by pitches. Several of those happened with the bases loaded forcing in Knoll pitched the final inning for Byron. He did not allow a run or a hit. Knoll also had an RBI double at the plate. Byron extended its winning streak to 25 games in a row. The Tigers haven't lost a game since April 1. The Tigers' record is now 28-4. Freeport's record is now Pretzels will refocus on their main goal of winning a NIC-10 championship. They have a one game lead on Hononegah, and they lead Boylan by two games. The Pretzels have three conference games remaining. Byron senior Nolan Brass honored by the Chicago Bears with a Bears Community All-Star Award
BYRON, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Byron High School senior Nolan Brass is hard to overlook on the field and off the field. The Chicago Bears certainly haven't overlooked Bears have named the Tigers' big lineman one of their Community High School Award winners for his accomplishments on and off the field and for his contributions to his has been a four-year varsity lineman for Byron's football team helping the Tigers to two state championships. Off the field, he has a 3.5 GPA. He also made the Illinois Football Coaches' Association Academic All-State Football also started up a highly successful anti-bulling initiative in Byron called 'TIE' which stands for 'Totally Include Everyone.' It's being used in Byron's schools. The Bears have presented Brass with a custom hand-painted football, and a gift bag, and they've invited him to a future Chicago Bears event. Chicago Bears select Byron's Nolan Brass for All-Star Award
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — What Byron High School senior Nolan Brass has accomplished on and off the field of play hasn't gone unnoticed by his community or by the Chicago Bears. Thursday, the Bears announced that Brass is one of their recipients of the 2025 Chicago Bears Community High School All-Star Award. The honor goes to high school football players and to girls flag football players who make a positive impact in their communities in has been a four-year varsity lineman on Byron's football team. He was part of the Tigers' state championship teams in 2021 and 2023. He was team captain the last two years. Brass has also been a key player on Byron's baseball the field, Brass has a 3.5 GPA, and he has made the Illinois High School Football Coaches Association 3A Academic All-State Team. Brass also created an anti-bullying initiative that is now used in the Byron School District called TIE (Totally Include Everyone). It promotes inclusion and graduating from Byron this spring, Brass will continue his studies and his athletic pursuits at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he will major in criminal justice. The Bears have presented Brass with a hand-painted football, a gift bag and an invitation to a future Chicago Bears event.
