''We do see that people from our communities are interested and like things such as gaming and comics and everything that is exhibited here, and we decided that instead of travelling to your upper-class locations, let us bring that to our local communities. 'One of our main goals is to expose children from different schools, so we invited some learners to showcase to them,'' said Zwane. The festival had stalls that showcased different products, ranging from artists with their vibrant paintings to edtech stands that dealt with robotics, gaming, and designers. Marketing CSI coordinator of Vumatel, Thandazile Mkhize shared that Afro Geek shared their concept with them and thought that it was something that they would want to venture into as they are for supporting for the community. Noordheuwel triumphs in thrilling 21–20 victory over Jeppe at KES Easter Festival
In what was nothing short of a thrilling spectacle, Hoërskool Noordheuwel triumphed 21–20 over Jeppe High School in the penultimate match of the KES Easter Festival, leaving the crowd on the edge of their seats right until the final whistle. From the first whistle, it was clear that this was no ordinary schoolboy rugby clash. The air was thick with tension as two fierce rivals, brimming with talent, set their sights on victory. Jeppe, who had made waves throughout the festival, came out of the blocks fast and furious, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable encounter. The match was dominated by a frenetic intensity, with both sides eager to impose their will early on. Jeppe struck first, thanks to an exceptional piece of play from Joshua Hamman. The burly forward took advantage of some quick, incisive passing from the backline to break through Noordheuwel's defensive line, sprinting under the posts to give the Johannesburg side an early 5–0 lead. The conversion was slotted, and Jeppe were firmly in the driver's seat. Their first-half dominance was evident; they held the ball for long periods, showcasing a mix of fluid attack and rugged defence. Noordheuwel, on the other hand, seemed a little rattled at first, struggling to match Jeppe's pace and physicality. Despite their best efforts, Noordheuwel couldn't find a way through, with Jeppe's defence holding firm. As the minutes ticked down towards half-time, Jeppe continued to control the tempo, and with every passing phase, it seemed as though they were on course for a comfortable victory. The second half began with an unmistakable shift in momentum. Noordheuwel, spurred on by some passionate words from their coaching staff, came out all guns blazing. They were determined not to let the game slip away from them, and their physicality and speed began to show. Jeppe, perhaps a little too comfortable, were now under immense pressure. Despite the mounting pressure, Jeppe fought back. But Noordheuwel weren't done. With just minutes remaining, they launched one final assault on the Jeppe try-line. In the end, it was a game that encapsulated everything we love about schoolboy rugby – passion, intensity, and drama. Jeppe's first-half dominance had been all but erased by Noordheuwel's second-half resurgence. With five tries in total, it was a match filled with action and edge-of-your-seat moments. For Noordheuwel, the 21–20 victory will be remembered as a gritty, hard-fought triumph that demonstrated the power of persistence and belief. For Jeppe, the loss was a bitter one, but they can take solace in knowing they were part of a match that will go down as one of the most exciting encounters of the KES Easter Festival. Noordheuwel crush Linden in showdown
The highly anticipated Best of the West match between rugby rivals Hoërskool Noordheuwel (Nories) and Hoërskool Linden was a game most supporters were fixated on. The match got off to a thrilling start, with both teams bringing the intensity, aiming to score their first try. However, the game took a dramatic turn when a player from Linden suffered a concussion and was taken to the hospital immediately. Despite this setback, the team showed their resilience and continued to push through, refusing to let their teammate's injury affect their performance. Nories' dominance on the field was evident with the final score being a jarring 52–3, while Linden's best efforts only managed to secure them a penalty. Our second team played against Noordheuwel's third team, which is about seven or eight divisions higher than us, so we were well aware of the competitiveness and physicality of the team. 'I strongly feel that this was a great chance for the boys to challenge their fears of playing against such strong teams and take them head-on, not just in the field but in life too. Congratulations to Noordheuwel on this epic win, and we appreciate the lessons learned today,' said Linden's coach Gerrie Scheepers.
