Woman jailed 12 months for drug possession in Kuching

KUCHING (June 24): A 34-year-old woman was sentenced to 12 months in jail by the Magistrates' Court here today for drug possession.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali meted out the sentence against Noraini Abdullah after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, punishable under Section 12(3) of the same Act.
The Section carries a fine not exceeding RM100,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years, or both, upon conviction.
The offence was committed at a house in Kampung Rampangi here at around 1pm on March 28, 2025.
Based on the facts of the case, police raided the house after receiving a tip-off and, upon inspection, found a transparent plastic packet containing crystalline substances inside a black crossbody bag.
The items were seized and Noraini was detained on suspicion of drug-related activities.
A subsequent chemistry report confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine, weighing 1.96g.
