£12,000 award prize will boost careers of aspiring young livestock farmers
A £12,000 prize is on offer to help aspiring young farmers gain a valuable foothold in Norfolk's livestock industry.
The biennial Chris Lewis Award was founded in 2007 in memory of its namesake, a respected Norfolk stockman and pedigree sheep breeder who was known for supporting young farmers.
The 2025 award is now open for entries, aiming to help young entrants into the livestock sector.
Applicants should be aged 30 or under at the time of application, resident in Norfolk for the last five years, and active in a livestock venture or looking to establish a new enterprise.
The £12,000 award, sponsored by the Norfolk Farmers Trust and the Clan Trust, covers further study, travel, tuition and training. It is presented in two instalments, subject to a progress report.
Awards organiser Roger Long, a cattle farmer based in Scarning, near Dereham, said the whole prize could be given to a single outstanding candidate, or shared between several winners, depending on the quality of the entries.
The closing date is April 30. For an application form, go to or email chrislewisaward@
