Potholes lead to Norfolk blitz to repair them

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The pothole at the corner of Keller and Hanbury streets in Norfolk is not easy to miss. Capria Smith tries to go around it. 'It is ragly. Don't you see? It is broken up,' she said. 'It's terrible. I used up my car all day.' Smith is hoping that someone from the city would come out and make repairs to the road. Suffolk Public Works hits streets with pothole blitz 'I am the pothole liaison,' said Marvin Hall with Norfolk Public Works' streets and bridges division. 'I'm the pothole guy.' Hall is the guy to make repairs, and it's his job, along with his crew, to fill potholes throughout the city's streets. Last year they filled more than 1,400 of them. This year, the blitz is on to repair potholes that formed from the winter weather. 'Snow, ice, rain, water, the roads get soft and vehicles kind of break up the asphalt pops up, expansions and contractions, … hot and cold, and it causes potholes throughout Norfolk,' Hall said. One by one, Hall says in a week's time they fill on average about 100 potholes. When the potholes get repaired the drivers become very thankful. 'I am happy about that,' Smith said. 'That's awesome. Hallelujah.' Hall said he appreciates the kind words. 'We're making sure it's safe for everybody,' he said. Norfolk residents are encouraged to report potholes using the MyNorfolk mobile app or .
