Hitachi looks to pass on veteran workers' expertise to AI agent
TOKYO -- Hitachi is using generative artificial intelligence to replicate the tacit knowledge of experienced maintenance technicians, highlighting a potential avenue for Japanese companies to compete in the field by tapping their years of manufacturing expertise.
"We have veterans who've been doing this for 30 years," said Norihiko Moriwaki, an executive officer at Hitachi Power Solutions, which provides control systems for power plants, factories, and rail and water infrastructure. "We had them tell us their tricks of the trade, and structured them in a form that AI could understand."
