The Kneecap furore: hip-hop v hypocrisy

Kneecap are, of course, free to urge gig-goers to kill Tories – but freedom of speech also involves being prepared to deal with consequences (Listen closely to the Kneecap furore. You'll hear hypocrisy from all sides, 1 May). While it's hardly surprising that music biz folk have leapt in to 'defend' Kneecap, would they be so eager if it was a group of activists saying: 'The only good musician is a dead musician. However, conflating these comments, which the band have apologised for, with their condemnation, at Coachella, of Israel's attack on Gaza seeks to close down the argument regarding Israel's actions, which many people around the world are appalled by. This is about being able to express moral BennettOxford No one would seriously defend off-the-cuff comments made by Kneecap during a raucous live performance. Case against man accused of impregnating daughter in Marlborough moved to superior court

A Marlborough District Court hearing scheduled for Friday regarding a man accused of impregnating his teen daughter while they were living in a migrant shelter last year was canceled and moved to Middlesex Superior Court. A Middlesex County Grand Jury has indicted the man, and he was arraigned March 11 in Middlesex Superior Court. He pleaded not guilty to aggravated rape of a child with more than 10 years age difference. The Daily News is not identifying the man so as not to identify the victim of an alleged sexual assault. But he is being held without bail after being declared a danger to the public and is due back in court on April 16. Earlier: No bail for man who's accused of raping his own daughter The man was arrested in February in Ayer after an investigation that began last May, authorities said. It is alleged the man was staying at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Marlborough, which has been used as a shelter for migrants. According to redacted reports from the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities Division of Housing Stabilization, an employee for Eliot Community Human Services, which managed the shelters in Marlborough, allegedly discovered a text from the man's daughter indicating she was pregnant with her father's child. According to the reports, the girl told someone via text that her father had sex with her multiple times, both in the United States and while they were on their way here. The man has been held without bail since his arrest. Bellingham police say shots fired at home, vehicle were 'targeted.' What we know

BELLINGHAM — Police are saying an early-morning shooting on Thursday in which a two-family home on Muron Avenue and a vehicle parked at the residence were each struck "multiple times" by gunshots was a targeted event. In a press release, police said they are seeking "additional information on a sedan seen fleeing the area around 3:45 a.m. toward Wrentham Street." Meanwhile, a 50-year-old man who lives in one of the apartments in the two-family home struck by the bullets, at 25-27 Muron Ave., faces charges after police obtained a search warrant and found two 'unlawfully possessed" handguns and other materials inside his home. According to the release, police said they first responded about 4 a.m. Thursday to the intersection of Pulaski Boulevard and South Main Street for a report of shots fired. They did not find anything. Later that morning, at 9 a.m., police responded to 25-27 Muron Ave. after residents there reported what they believed were gunshot holes in the front of the home. 'Officers responded and confirmed that both the residence and a vehicle had been struck several times,' police said in the release. No one was injured. 2024 town election: Bellingham voters OK $750K override to pay for six additional paramedics Police began an investigation with the assistance of the Metropolitan Law Enforcement's police dog unit and the Massachusetts State Police. It was during that investigation that police encountered the 50-year-old man. He had an unrelated warrant for his arrest and was taken into custody. After obtaining a search warrant for the man's apartment, police said they found two 'unlawfully possessed" handguns, several high-capacity magazines, several rounds of ammunition and a 'Glock switch,' which is an illegal item used to convert handguns into fully automatic firearms.
