Man arrested, accused of shooting at 2 people in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An Alexandria man was arrested in Baton Rouge after reportedly firing shots at a vehicle with two people inside.
According to an affidavit, the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office was called to an apartment complex in the 5550 block of Regatta Drive about a shooting. When deputies arrived, a victim pointed out a suspect, Norman Singleton, 24, as the person who shot at them. Singleton was detained, and detectives secured the scene.
While investigating, deputies found about 13 spent shell casings and one live bullet in the driveway.
After speaking with the two victims, both stated they were at the apartment to collect clothes from a friend. While there, two people began arguing. One of the victims separated the two. While separating the two people arguing, Singleton was accused of exiting the residence and pointing a gun at the victim.
As both victims tried to leave the area, shots were fired in their direction, according to the affidavit.
Detectives spoke with Singleton, who denied having a gun and claimed he was asleep at the time of the incident. After searching the residence, deputies found an empty magazine, a live bullet, and a pistol with a missing magazine. Detectives noted the gun was hidden under the kitchen sink. It was found underneath a frying pan. Other witnesses confirmed the witness's story of Singleton being the shooter.
Singleton was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of obstruction of justice and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
