Bozeman hires Bryan Normand as head baseball coach

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – Deane Bozeman High School has officially named Bryan Normand as its next head baseball coach, succeeding legendary coach Jeff Patton. Normand, who most recently served as an assistant coach at Arnold High School, brings more than two decades of coaching experience to the Bucks. A Louisiana native, he moved to Bay County in 2007 and has held coaching positions at Arnold, North Bay Haven, and Liberty County. During his career, Normand helped build North Bay Haven's baseball program from the ground up, leading the team to its only two playoff appearances. He was also part of the Arnold coaching staff that reached the FHSAA Final Four. 'I like to say I'm a players' coach,' Normand said. 'I build great relationships with my players. One of the things I think I'll miss most from my time at Arnold is the van rides with the seniors. We always had a strong bond.' Normand takes over for longtime head coach Jeff Patton, a Bay County baseball legend who retired this year after more than 20 years at the helm. Patton leaves behind a Hall of Fame-worthy legacy, having built the program from the ground up. Bozeman baseball coaching legend, Patton retires 'Everybody says I have big shoes to fill with Jeff Patton,' Normand said. 'I don't plan on filling his shoes—I'm bringing my own. We'll honor him, maybe bronze his shoes and hang them above the dugout. But at the end of the day, I'm here to keep winning ballgames and championships.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. North Bay Haven's Goodpaster named All-American

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) – North Bay Haven junior Kaylee Goodpaster capped off one of the most impressive single-season performances ever by a Bay County athlete this spring, and now she's being recognized on the national stage. Goodpaster, a Florida State softball commit, has been named a Second Team All-American by Prep Softball. The honor places her among the top 18 high school softball players in the nation and among the top six outfielders. She finished her junior season with a .600 batting average, 51 hits, a state-high 61 RBIs and 12 home runs, a mark that ranks in the top 10 across Florida. Goodpaster's dominance was on full display in the state finals, where she hit two home runs off a future Division I pitcher. She said she hopes to deliver North Bay Haven and Bay County its first softball state title before she heads to Tallahassee. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Westminster Christian's remarkable softball run ends in state semifinals

Westminster Christian ran out of miracles. The Warriors softball team, after executing a pair of incredible comebacks in its previous two games, lost on Tuesday night, 4-3, to North Bay Haven Academy in the Class 2A state semifinals at Longwood. Westminster finished its season with a record of 20-8-1. North Bay Haven (25-3) will play for the state title on Wednesday night. Last week, Westminster earned a pair of walk-off wins despite trailing by six runs in the sixth inning of the regional semifinals and by seven runs in the sixth inning of the regional final. On Tuesday night, however, the Warriors led 1-0 and 3-2, but North Bay Haven rallied each time. 'I'm super proud of these girls,' Westminster coach Nic Varsi said of his team. 'There were several lead changes – it was just a really good game back and forth. 'Our girls did awesome.' Senior Gigi Khoury, Westminster's star third baseman, got things going in the first inning with a double. She advanced on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Jasmine Armenteros' sac fly. After North Bay Haven took a 2-1 lead on a two-run homer, the Warriors came right back in the top of the fourth inning. Khoury singled, and Mya Rodgers reached on a two-base error to start the rally. Armenteros then hit a fly ball that carried so far into right field that Khoury scored from third and Rodgers sped home from second. Unfortunately for the Warriors, North Bay Haven scored an unearned run in the fifth to tie the score, 3-3, and then another unearned run in the sixth to make it 4-3. There was no Warriors comeback this time. Only sadness. 'The girls are emotional and upset,' Varsi said. 'But more than the loss, I think they're sad because this team won't get to play together again. 'It's over.'
