Delafield's steady hand on the mound leads North Desoto to semifinal victory

STONEWALL, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Luke Delafield pitched a complete game shutout as North Desoto forced a game three in the Division II (Non-Select) state semifinals with a 3-0 victory over Lutcher on Friday night. Delafield, who deemed himself Davy Crockett on the Friday Night Blitz during football season, was hunting Bulldogs batters all night. He kept Lutcher hitters off balance and pitched to contact, relying on a stout defense. He finished with four strikeouts. 'He pitched a heck of a game, ' said North Desoto head coach Bo Odom. 'That's the best game he's pitched ever.' The Griffins got on the board first in the top of the 3rd inning when Brayden Toothman found the hole in the right side of the defense, the seeing eye single to right drove in Miller Warren to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. North Desoto added another run in the 6th inning with a bases loaded walk. Porter Doyal gave Delafield a little insurance in the top of the 7th inning with an RBI double off the wall in the deepest part of the park to score Cannon Procell for the final run of the game. Game three is set for Saturday at 1 p.m., the winner will advance to the state championship series. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Tough break on the basepath dooms North Desoto in Game One

STONEWALL, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — North Desoto fell behind and didn't have enough hitting to get back in the game in a 7-4 loss to Lutcher in game one of the Division II (Non-Select) state semifinals Thursday night. Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the 3rd inning, Cole Cory drove in Brayden Toothman with a well placed bunt, forcing the pitcher to make an errant throw down the first baseline. Later in the inning, the Griffins continued to pressure the Lutcher defense. With runners on first and second with nobody out, Braden Jones laid down another bunt, again the pitcher made a bad throw and the ball was knocked free from the first baseman as he collided with Jones at the base. It looked like two runs would score to tie the game at four, but after the play the umpires huddled up and called interference on Jones, taking the runs off the board and Jones is out at first. Instead of a tie game with a runner on 2nd and no outs, the Griffins had runners on 1st and second with one out, killing the momentum of the inning. North Desoto will need to win two straight to advance to the state championship series in Sulphur. Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday evening at 6 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. North Desoto cheer wins back-to-back national titles

STONEWALL, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — North Desoto cheer has become quite the powerhouse. The Lady Griffins have won back-to-back NCA High School National Championships since the program started competing four years ago. 'When you sit down and think about how crazy it is that these groups of girls from Stonewall went to Dallas, Texas and won a national title two times in a row,' explained North Desoto cheer's head coach Emilie Parker. 'That's not really heard of.' The road to victory was far from easy for the Lady Griffins. When the cheer team started competing four years ago, it was rough when North Desoto finished in last place. 'When we went in that first year,' recalled senior co-caption Abagail Mcinnis. 'We saw what we needed to be and the type of team we would have to be to win.' STATE BOUND: Parkway pulls away from Denham Springs in quarterfinal showdown 'The first year that we got last was the most important year,' reflected Coach Parker. 'It showed (the girls) that if they don't work for it'…'you're going to get last.' Once the Lady Griffins got back to Stonewall, they hit the ground running ready to improve their skills and performance. The team had to practice outside on the football field during the summer, and then inside the school cafeteria on mats that were about half the size of a competition floor, due to lack of space available. STATE BOUND: Huntington punches ticket to state tournament for 5th time in 6 years Throughout that process North Desoto cheer has been conditioned to adapt and excel, with the memory of that first-year loss burning in the back of their minds. 'After we came back the next summer,' remembered senior captain Katelyn Cory. 'We literally stuck that seventh place trophy out on the turf where we practice during the summer and that was our motivation when we wanted to give up. The second year that North Desoto cheer competed at NCA High School Nationals they finished in third, but the Lady Griffins weren't satisfied. STATE BOUND: Haughton punches ticket to state tourney for first time in program history They kept putting in the hard work and it finally paid off last year when North Desoto cheer won the national title. 'The moment when you stand up, run to the podium, lift the trophy, they pop the confetti and you get your jackets,' explained Mcinnis. 'It's exhilarating. A once in a lifetime chance.' A once in a lifetime chance that the Lady Griffins got to experience all over again. THE LATEST — High School Sports News North Desoto was determined to keep building off of last year's national title, and they succeeded and won back-to-back NCA High School National Champions. 'I just thought how did we do this,' admitted Coach Parker. 'I mean this school has 800 kids and we're competing against other schools that have 3000 kids. It was just a crazy feeling that I can't believe these girls just did this.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
