Personal trainer and sports coach to launch new gym in north Norfolk

A personal trainer and sports coach are joining forces to open a new gym in north Norfolk. With five years of experience as a personal trainer, Josh Willis and sports coach Hannah Carter are opening Carter's Gym in North Walsham. The pair saw a "gap in the market" for weight space gyms in the area that are not bodybuilding-focused. The pair wants to create a space where people feel comfortable using weight equipment (Image: Carter's Gym) The new space hopes to target those who lack confidence surrounding the use of weights. "I have a good clientele at the moment who will be joining me over here and I will continue to offer friendly service to help build people's confidence," Mr Willis said. 'We have received a really good response so far and now it is finally kicking in the excitement is building." READ MORE: Gym goers can expect a range of weight equipment as well as cardio machines. Personal training sessions and small group classes limited to eight people to ensure "a more personalised experience" will also be on offer. "With it just being the two of us at the moment, we are a gym for our members,' Ms Carter added. Norfolk rugby star Ben Youngs to hang up boots at end of season

Ben Youngs, England's most-capped men's player and former pupil of Gresham's School in Holt, has announced he will retire from professional rugby at the end of the 2024/25 season. The Leicester Tigers scrum-half, who also played junior rugby locally for Holt RFC and North Walsham, confirmed the news after making his 332nd senior appearance for the Tigers in their Easter Sunday victory over Bristol Bears. Youngs, 34, made his senior debut in 2007 and went on to forge one of the most decorated careers in English rugby history. He became the youngest-ever Premiership player for Leicester Tigers and has since become the club's most capped European player. He has also featured in four Rugby World Cups and was a British & Irish Lion in 2013. While his international career concluded after the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Youngs remains a key figure at Leicester and has played an integral part in five Premiership title wins. In total, the Youngs family have now amassed an incredible 692 appearances for the Tigers between Ben, his brother Tom, and their father Nick. Despite his national and international achievements, Youngs has never forgotten his Norfolk roots. Alongside his contributions to Holt and North Walsham in his youth, he returned to the county in September 2024 to take up a new role as Head of Performance Sport at Gresham's, helping to develop the next generation of high-performance athletes. Speaking to the Leicester Tigers website, Youngs said it was a "bittersweet feeling" to announce his retirement, adding: 'Obviously, I'm sad at the thought it's coming to an end but I'm excited about the rest of this season, excited about what this group can do. That's the strange part, I'm using the 'r' word but it isn't over today, there is still plenty of rugby left this season and that's what is at the front of my mind. I'm not done, let's not write the obituary just yet. 'I have spent two decades of my life here at the club and I have been lucky to be a part of some incredible moments along the way, enjoyed so much success and made memories that will last a lifetime. It's all I have known in club rugby, the green, red and white, and all I've wanted to know. The idea of playing against this club wasn't ever an option for me and so, for me to be able to finish a one-club player will be one of my greatest achievements. 'The time will come to thank everybody who has helped me achieve what I have but, that's for when it comes to an end. For now, it's about finishing this chapter of my life with some more success. I'm not done just yet.'
