Four soldiers, seven ‘Indian-sponsored' militants killed in Pakistan's northwest, military says
ISLAMABAD: Four Pakistani soldiers and seven 'Indian-sponsored' militants were killed in separate encounters in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, the Pakistani military said late Thursday. Islamabad has accused India of orchestrating several militant attacks in Pakistan, amid heightened tensions between the two neighbors since traded fire earlier this month in worst fighting between them in decades. New Delhi denies the allegations. On Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military's media wing, said the militants attempted to attack a security forces' check-post in KP's North Waziristan district, which was effectively thwarted by Pakistani forces. 'Indian sponsored khwarij [militants] attempted to attack a Security Forces Check Post in general area Shawal, North Waziristan District. The attempt was effectively thwarted by own troops and in ensuing fire exchange, six Indian sponsored khwarij were sent to hell,' it said in a statement. 'However, during intense fire exchange, Lt. Daniyal Ismail… a brave young officer who was leading his troops from front, fought gallantly and embraced Shahadat along with his three men.' Pakistani security forces neutralized one more 'Indian-sponsored' militant in another encounter in the Chitral district, according to the ISPR. 'Sanitization operations are being conducted to eliminate any other Indian-sponsored kharji found in the area,' it added. Pakistan and India often accuse each other of supporting militancy. This month's standoff, which saw the neighbors trade missiles, drones and artillery fire, was triggered by an attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir that India blamed on Pakistan. Islamabad has denied involvement. Islamabad blames India of backing a separatist insurgency in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province as well as religiously motivated militant groups, like the Pakistani Taliban, in KP. India denies the allegations.

Pakistani military blames ‘Indian-sponsored' militants for children's death in northwest this week
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's military on Wednesday denied responsibility for the death of four children in North Waziristan earlier this week, attributing the incident to a proscribed militant network which it said was operating on 'the behest of their Indian masters.' The incident occurred on May 19 in the Hurmuz village of Mir Ali tehsil, where a suspected drone strike reportedly led to the death of four children from the same family and injuries to five others, including a woman. The tragedy sparked protests in the area, with locals staging a sit-in and refusing to bury the deceased until authorities provided clarity on the incident and ensured accountability for the loss of innocent lives. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing, dismissed allegations implicating Pakistan's security forces in the strike, labeling the accusations as 'entirely baseless' and part of a 'coordinated disinformation campaign' aimed at discrediting the military's counterterrorism efforts. 'Initial findings have established that this heinous act has been orchestrated and executed by Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khwarij,' the statement said, using a term commonly employed by Pakistani authorities to describe extremist factions like the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The term 'khwarij' is rooted in early Islamic history and refers to an extremist sect that declared other Muslims apostates. 'It is evident that these elements — acting at the behest of their Indian Masters — continue to exploit civilian areas and vulnerable populations as shields to conduct their reprehensible acts of terrorism,' the statement added. 'Such tactics aims to unsuccessfully sow discord between the local population and the security forces, who together remain resolute to uproot the menace of terrorism.' The military also reaffirmed its commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice, emphasizing its ongoing efforts to combat militant violence in the region.

Two soldiers killed as militants ambush security forces convoy in northwest Pakistan— army
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan military's media wing said on Monday that two soldiers were killed were militants ambushed a security forces' convoy in the country's northwestern province bordering Afghanistan. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said it conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the northwestern Lakki Marwat district on Sunday night, where five Pakistani Taliban militants were killed. In the second IBO in the northwestern Bannu district, the military said two militants were killed by security forces. However, in the North Waziristan district, Pakistani Taliban militants ambushed a security forces convoy in which two militants were killed and also two soldiers. 'However, during the intense fire exchange, two brave sons of soil, Sepoy Farhad Ali Turi (age: 29 years, resident of District Kurram) and Lance Naik Sabir Afridi (age: 32 years, resident of District Kohat) having fought gallantly, paid the ultimate sacrifice and embraced shahadat [martyrdom],' the ISPR said. The military's media wing said sanitization operations were being conducted to eliminate any other 'Khawarji' found in the area, the term the army uses for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or Pakistani Taliban militants. 'Security forces of Pakistan are determined to wipe out the menace of terrorism perpetrated by Indian proxies, and such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,' the ISPR said. The Pakistan military described TTP militants as 'Indian-sponsored,' emphasizing its earlier allegations that New Delhi funds and arms militants in Pakistan. India, however, denies using militant proxies in Pakistan. Pakistan has struggled to contain a surge in militancy in KP since a fragile truce between the Pakistani Taliban and Islamabad broke down in November 2022. The TTP and other militant groups have frequently targeted security forces convoys and check-posts, besides carrying out targeted killings and kidnappings of law enforcers and government officials in recent months. Pakistan says the takeover of Kabul by the Afghan Taliban in 2021 has emboldened the TTP as it is able to operate out of and launch attacks from safe havens in neighboring Afghanistan. Kabul denies the allegation.
