Northamptonshire commentator Andrew Radd wins prestigiou award
A BBC local radio cricket commentator with a "fountain of knowledge" has been honoured with a prestigious Radio Northampton's Andew Radd - who is also Northamptonshire County Cricket Club's official archivist - was presented with the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians' (ACS) statistician of the year award on Brooke-Lambert Award recognises outstanding work in the field of cricket research and David Kendix, the president of the ACS, said Mr Radd was a "well-deserved winner" and "a distinguished scholar and historian of the game"Mr Radd, better known as Radders, said he was "honoured" to have his work recognised by the association. He was given the award on the pitch during the interval in Northamptonshire's County Championship Division Two fixture against Middlesex at the County Radd began to study cricket and its history while he was still in primary school. He joined BBC Radio Northampton in the 1980s and is a familiar voice on the station's news bulletins and other programmes outside of the cricket an author he has also written a number of books about Northamptonshire County Cricket Club and its personalities. Gavin Warren, president of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, said: "As a club we're proud [of Andrew]. It's a just reward. His passion for the game is second to none and the information and the dedication and the stats he comes up with are just phenomenal."Radders wanted a low-key presentation today and I made sure that wasn't going to happen."We are just a fraction of the time of the club's existence, to remember the past... we're just here in 2025 and we've got to remember what happened all those years ago. Aussie quicks give Darren Lehmann county lift-off
Darren Lehmann has enjoyed his first win as Northamptonshire coach in the county championship -- with a little bit of help from two Australian quick bowlers, Harry Conway and Liam Guthrie. The two pacemen grabbed half of Lancashire's wickets between them over the three-day contest at Wantage Road and even the best efforts of another Aussie Marcus Harris, the leading scorer in English cricket this season, wasn't enough to prevent a 70-run defeat on Sunday. Guthrie finished the job by dismissing last man Will Williams with Lancs all out for 165. It was enough to push Nothamptonshire up to mid-table in the second division, while Lancashire, who had been tipped for promotion, are rock bottom at the moment. That's despite Harris's runs. The 32-year-old now has a total of 749 runs in 10 knocks at an average of 83.22 and his fifth boundary on Sunday made him the first man to hit a hundred fours in county cricket this season. Meanwhile, Glamorgan have confirmed that their ever popular import Marnus Labuschagne will be back to face Northamptonshire this week in Cardiff, as well as playing Middlesex the following week, as he warms up for the World Test Championship final against South Africa at Lord's.
