'Energy centre' plan lodged for Scunthorpe hospital

Plans to build an energy centre at a hospital in North Lincolnshire have been submitted as part of a project to make it more environmentally sustainable. Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust wants to demolish two buildings at Scunthorpe General Hospital. The planning application states they would be replaced by a new electric-powered boiler system as part of a £27m investment scheme in the site. A letter to nearby residents said the development would make Scunthorpe "one of the most environmentally sustainable healthcare sites in the UK". The two-storey building would include offices and a workshop. It would also see the removal of the site's chimney. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, plans for a larger, three-storey building were considered but ruled out due to site constraints and the impact on people living nearby.
