4 killed in Dundee house shooting, including woman and teenage girl

Four people, including a woman and a teenage girl, were shot dead at a house in Sibongile, Dundee, last night. Initial reports suggest the victims were attacked at about 20:00, Northern Natal News reports. KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said it was reported that two men, aged 31 and 35, were outside the house when an unknown number of gunmen arrived and opened fire on them, killing them instantly. The gunmen then went inside the house, where there were three people, and demanded money and drugs from a 29-year-old woman. A scuffle ensued between one of the men and the woman during which she was shot multiple times. The men searched and took an undisclosed amount of money. A 14-year-old girl who was in the house was also shot several times and died on the scene. Two others, a man and a woman, who were in the house, reportedly managed to leave the room upon hearing the first gunshots and survived the shooting unscathed. 'The motive of the killings is suspected to be robbery; however, a drug-related feud cannot be ruled out. Police are appealing to anyone who might have information regarding the incident and the suspects' whereabouts to contact the nearest police station or call the crime stop number 08600 10111.' Coin-It scam: KZN De Beer family faces high court over alleged R73.6m fraud

The Dundee-based De Beer family trio — Malcolm and Patricia (husband and wife) and their daughter Samantha — will be back in the High Court on May 28 on charges of fraud linked to the failed Coin-It investment scheme, which allegedly defrauded investors of R73.6m. According to Northern Natal News, the matter was postponed to allow the accused time to obtain certain documents, confirms National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson-Kara. The De Beers are accused of running Coin-It, an unregistered investment operation that promised returns by giving investors a stake in trucks supposedly working on mining contracts. The scheme later collapsed, leaving hundreds of investors out of pocket. 'In terms of the Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act [37 of 2002] and the Banks Act [94 of 1990], Coin-It was not authorised to accept deposits from investors,' says Ramkisson-Kara. 'The state alleges that the entity was not registered as a financial services provider and operated without the required licences.' All three accused remain out on R50 000 bail each. Malcolm and Patricia have also surrendered their passports as part of their bail conditions. Several properties have already been seized by the Asset Forfeiture Unit in terms of a Preservation Order granted by the Pietermaritzburg High Court in 2020. These include the Royal Country Inn (now student accommodation) and other properties, one of which, in the Dundee industrial area, is to be auctioned this month. 5 arrested following armed robbery at KZN chain store

A co-ordinated, rapid response from SAPS and private security teams led to the arrest of five suspects following an armed robbery at the Exact store on Victoria Street in Dundee's CBD on Saturday. Northern Natal News reports that the drama unfolded when seven armed suspects, travelling in a white Suzuki Ertiga, stormed the shop and fled the scene with cellular devices, clothing and cash. Various private security companies and SAPS units responded to the call. 'Two suspects, both aged 30, were traced and arrested in the Uitval area of Ekuvukeni. Authorities also recovered stolen cellphones and clothing,' says Umzinyathi SAPS spokesperson Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana. Further intelligence revealed that the getaway vehicle was heading towards Pietermaritzburg. Responding quickly, members of the SAPS Pietermaritzburg K9 unit, flying squad, Balid, Magma and Fidelity Security intercepted the vehicle and three suspects were arrested. Investigations are ongoing as police work to locate and arrest the two suspects who got away. Breaking news at your fingertips… Follow Caxton Network News on Facebook and join our WhatsApp channel.
