Seahawks receive special send off ahead of Final Four
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – As the South Walton baseball team heads to back the Final Four, the South Walton community gives their support. After last year's state tournament run ended in disappointment, the Seahawks believe valuable experience has been gained. Head coach Nick Borthwick has credited that experience as a major advantage for his team heading into this year's state semifinals. 'It's a huge advantage,' Borthwick said. 'Being down in Fort Myers last year and understanding the environment of the stadium, the size of the field, etc.' 'The guys have already had that experience. The majority of them are coming back, they're confident, they feel good. They're ready to play their best baseball going down to Fort Myers.' In preparation for the state stadium, Borthwick brought his team out to Niceville, to the Northwest Florida State College to practice, earlier in the week. Community support has also been embraced by the Seahawks, who were given a celebratory send-off. The team visited local middle and elementary schools in Walton County, visiting past teachers and young students. 'That was special because we got to go see the youth who've come out to our games all year,' Borthwick said. 'Some of the guys went to school there. They got to see their old teachers. The schools gave us a great send-off before we head down. That was a special celebration for these guys — for regional champions and hopefully upcoming state champions.' The Seahawks, who enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed, are scheduled to face Hernando High School from Brooksville in the state semifinals on Monday, May 19 at 10 a.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Seaside School expands with new dual enrollment and job training campus
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – A Seaside Walton County School is nearing completion of their campus expansion. Back in December, Seacoast Collegiate High School secured a $9.5 million grant proposal from Triumph Gulf Coast. The grant will allow the school to expand its campus and offer more post-secondary programs and certificates to high school students. In partnership with Northwest Florida State College, the school will have a new dual enrollment and workforce training campus. Once complete, the facility will serve more than 500 high school and dual enrollment students annually, including an additional 250-plus college students from across the county who would otherwise face barriers to higher education. The campus is set to open in August 2025. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Texas A&M lands elite JUCO LHP from Northwest Florida State College
Texas A&M lands elite JUCO LHP from Northwest Florida State College Texas A&M adds another 2026 commit who can help the bullpen in the long run. On Wednesday, left-handed pitcher Cooper Powell, out of Bedford, TX, announced via social media that he will continue his college career in Bryan-College Station. Powell is currently in his first year at Northwest Florida State College and has been very impressive through 15 appearances. At 5'11", 185 lbs, he still has some room to grow, and with a fastball that tops out around 94 mph, he's been filling up the stat sheet with strikeouts. Perfect Game currently ranks him as the No. 1 JUCO LHP, which he will bring back to his hometown state. Texas A&M coach Michael Earley has been off to a hot start on the recruiting trail. While the Aggies got off to a slow start this season, the recent hot streak has impressed prospects, which should lead to more commitments in due time.
