Award-winning musician Blue Rose Code to perform at Coatbridge's 50rpm club
Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Ross Wilson has been recording albums for over a decade.
A multi-award-winning musician will perform an 'intimate' gig in Coatbridge later this month.
Blue Rose Code is set to treat music fans at the town's 50rpm club, based in The Georgian Hotel, to an unforgettable night on June 27.
Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter and guitarist Ross Wilson has been recording albums for over a decade as Blue Rose Code, building an enviable following and live reputation due to his charismatic stage presence and the unique sound he has developed.
Having previously played a sold-out show at Motherwell Concert Hall and Theatre on his last visit to Lanarkshire, and more recently a sell-out show at Glasgow's Pavilion Theatre, Ross is looking forward to playing in more intimate venues and stripping back the songs.
He said: 'We asked fans where they would like us to come and play - places we perhaps hadn't been to before - and 50rpm's name just kept coming up.
'We have heard so many great things about it and just how attentive and passionate the audience is, so it is great to finally get to play there.'
As a songwriter, Ross pulls no punches, tackling subjects that others avoid while drawing on his own life experiences to create something quite magical.
Comparisons with Van Morrison and a young John Martyn are regularly mentioned, perhaps due to the way he is happy to blend influences from pop, soul and folk into his sound.
The band's last album, Bright Circumstance, is the perfect example of this, with tracks like Jericho's soulful stabbing brass and Motown beats, while the mesmerising country tinged Sadie is a truthful and honest ode to his late mother.
The album's final track, the beautiful Now The Big Man Has Gone On, is a musical letter to a friend who has gone too soon, and it is this ability to write from the heart and connect with others that makes Ross a truly special songwriter.
Opening for Blue Rose Code in Coatbridge is the renowned poet and songwriter Sulidae.
Sulidae is the musical project of Bobby Motherwell, the current poet in residence at RSPB Lochwinnoch.
This will be Bobby's fourth visit to 50rpm, having previously been asked by Tom Robinson to open for him.
50rpm is a community-run club which holds its shows at The Georgian Hotel and was set up in 2019 to bring top quality live music to the area - and provide a platform for touring acts and local talent, with acts such as Tom Robinson, Briana Corrigan (The Beautiful South), Richard Jobson (The Skids), JJ Gilmour and Wreckless Eric playing at the club.
'Ross is a wonderfully talented musician and the audience is sure to have a great time.
'We welcome along music fans from across Monklands and hope they will join us for further upcoming gigs, which include punk rock icon Ed Tudor-Pole, Australia's Those Folk and the highly regarded Irish trio CUA.'
