Suspected drug peddler from Bihar held in Cachar with 3.11cr heroin
Silchar: Police seized 622g of heroin valued at Rs 3.11 crore and arrested a suspected drug peddler hailing from Bihar near the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Ramnagar, on the outskirts of Silchar town, on Thursday, SP (Cachar) Numal Mahatta told the media on Friday, reports BB Goswami. Rs 63k fake notes seized in Cachar, one arrested
Silchar: Police in Cachar district seized Rs 63,000 in fake Indian currency notes and arrested a suspect. Sonai police team intercepted an autorickshaw in the Kajidahar area along the Silchar-Aizawl NH-306 on Wednesday evening. Officials set up a trap targeting an individual believed to be transporting a large sum of counterfeit currency that was intended to be delivered at the Inter-State Bus Terminal, Silchar. During the search, a bundle of cash containing 126 fake notes of Rs 500 denomination, valued at Rs 63,000 was seized. The arrested suspect was identified as Selim Uddin Barbhuiya of Nagdirgram in Sonai. A high-end smartphone, a SIM card, and a black plastic polythene bag were seized from his possession. The autorickshaw used in the operation was also seized. Speaking about the successful operation, SP (Cachar), Numal Mahatta, stated, "Acting on a specific tip-off, a trap was laid for an individual attempting to deliver a large amount of fake currency. The operation was successful, and the accused has been taken into custody." Further investigations are underway to dismantle the counterfeit currency ring, and authorities reaffirm their commitment to combating such illegal activities to protect the economy and the public. The police have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in the circulation of fake currency to maintain financial stability and public trust.

20 crore heroin, 60,000 Yaba tablets seized in Silchar, 1 arrested
Silchar: In a major crackdown on narcotics, police in Silchar's Meherpur seized drugs worth approximately Rs 20 crore and arrested a suspect on Wednesday, reports BB Goswami. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta informed the media that security forces, acting on a credible tip-off, conducted a targeted operation in Meherpur and intercepted an SUV. The suspect, identified as Raja Miah Borbhuyan (64), a resident of Moinul Haque Choudhury Lane in Meherpur, was apprehended at the scene. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam Police, particularly the Cachar unit, for their successful operation via his X handle.

6.7cr drugs seized in Silchar, 2 held
Silchar: Drugs valued at around Rs 6.7 crore were seized and two alleged drug peddlers arrested on the Silchar bypass road near ISBT on Tuesday, reports BB Goswami. SP (Cachar) Numal Mahatta said acting on a tip-off, a police team carried out an operation on the Silchar bypass road in the wee hours of Tuesday and intercepted a vehicle. On searching the vehicle, 114 grams of heroin and 20,000 Yaba tablets were recovered. The narcotics is valed at around Rs 6.7 crore in the black market. Two individuals, identified as Hussain Ahmed Laskar (35) and Jainul Hussain Laskar (39), were arrested. Hussaini hails from Bhagdahar, Silchar while Jainul is a resident of Berenga in Silchar. Initial investigation into the matter found that the narcotics were smuggled from Mizoram's Aizawl. Further probe is on, Mahatta minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the Assam police (Cachar police) via a post on social media.
