Does Ford's Mustang GTD Really Weigh 4343 Pounds? We Have Doubts

The Nurburgring-blasting muscle car known as the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD still hasn't reached the hands of its owners, so fans have been scouring the internet for any additional information about the car they can muster. As part of this hunt for information, the die-hard folks at the Mustang 7G forum located some of Ford's official government paperwork for the car, as recently revealed on Reddit, and the documents reveal the car's curb weight for the first time. It's fair to say that the GTD is going to be a heavyweight in more than one way. According to the EPA documents linked here, the 2025 Mustang GTD tested was revealed to have a curb weight figure of 4343 pounds. For reference, our sister publication Car and Driver tested the outgoing, related S550-generation Shelby GT500 at 4171 lbs on their scales. And while the GTD does feature weight-saving features like carbon body panels, forged magnesium wheels, no rear seats, and a lightweight titanium exhaust, it also packs a trick active aerodynamics package, as well as an inboard-mounted active suspension. Add the supercharged V-8 and its requisite cooling package up front, and the weight starts to make a bit more sense. One could argue the mass makes the 'Ring lap record even more impressive, coming from a car that's about 175 lbs lighter than a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody. It is important to note that all the reported figures for Ford's latest pony cars in these EPA filings seem a little bit high, however. The filing lists the curb weight for the new Mustang EcoBoost Performance Pack at 3920 lbs, while C/D tested that car closer to 3812 lbs. The government also lists a generic 5.0-liter equipped car at 4113 lbs, where the Dark Horse and GT models have been weighed in at 3975 lbs and 3947 lbs, respectively. That's all to say we wouldn't be surprised to see the GTD tip the scales closer to 4200 lbs, rather than the 4343 lbs claimed by the feds. That's still not exactly what you'd call featherweight, but a bit more reasonable, nonetheless. Ford plans to ship the Mustang GTD to its owners during the second quarter of the year. That means we should be able to strap testing equipment to a car before too long, letting us know exactly how portly this new pony actually is. Place your bets in the comments now.
