Like many an automotive enthusiast, Hot Wheels were a critical part of my childhood. Now, there's a new level of excitement coming to the tiny toy car universe, because Ferrari is joining forces with Mattel to launch a whole new line of Italian sports car toys. This is not the first time the folks in Maranello and El Segundo have joined forces, but it's been more a decade since the last prancing horse made an appearance on a miniature scale. But the announcement of this new collection, which was made at the Nuremberg International Toy Fair on January 27, sounds like it may be the biggest collaboration yet. "The collection will deliver a wide range of Ferrari classics and the newest and most technologically advanced models, including celebrated racing and road cars," a press release for the collaboration reads. Previously, Ferrari has released the rights for models like the F40, 599X, and LaFerrari to Mattel; this launch, however, appears to focus on a broader picture of Maranello history. Both companies are very tight-lipped about which models will be included in the launch, but we suspect it's unlikely we'll see repeat casting of Hot Wheels and Ferrari's 26 prior collaborations.
