SEREMBAN: A 56-year-old man claimed trial at the Magistrate's Court here to a charge of riding his bicycle in a dangerous manner and without taking reasonable consideration for the safety of others which eventually led to a fatal accident. K. Selva Natchathram pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah. The accused was charged with committing the offence around 2.55pm on March 27 last year at Taman Desa Anggerik near here. He was charged under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport act 1987 read together with section 54(1) of the same legislation. Offenders can be fined between RM1,000 and RM5,000 and jailed up to 12 months or both upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor P. Rubini then offered the accused a bail of RM1,000. However, the accused who was unrepresented said he was unable to raise the amount as both his wife and he were not employed. The court then allowed a bail of RM500 but the accused could not post bail. The court then fixed June 26 for mention.

SEREMBAN: A teenager was fined RM400 by the magistrate's court here today for smoking within the court premises. Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah handed down the sentence after the 18-year-old pleaded guilty to the offence during proceedings held behind the Special Traffic Court. According to the charge, the youth who is classified as a juvenile under the law was found smoking in a no-smoking area at a government facility. The offence took place at 10.02am on Nov 18 last year at the Seremban Court Complex. He was charged under Subsection 17(1) of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852), read together with Paragraph 3(9) of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health (Declaration of No-Smoking Areas or Places) Order 2024. The court ordered the teen to serve a week in jail if he failed to pay the fine. According to the facts of the case, the accused was seen smoking within the Seremban Court Complex by an Assistant Environmental Health Officer (PPKP) from the Seremban District Health Office. The officer approached the teen and informed him of the offence, after which the teenager discarded the cigarette he was holding. The prosecution was conducted by PPKP Vivig Dinesh Vigane Swaran, while the accused was unrepresented.

SEREMBAN: A 17-year-old, who allegedly caused the death of three young motorcyclists due to reckless driving, will file a representation to review the charge. Lawyer for the accused, Johan Radzi, told this to magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah when the case came up for mention. 'We will file a representation after we get the relevant documents from the prosecution,' he said. On April 22, the accused claimed trial to a charge of causing the deaths of Muhammad Aidil Ramdan Abdullah, 15, Muhammad Aswari Lotpi, 16, and Aisar Azim Abdullah, 17. The offence was allegedly committed at the Taman Matahari junction along Jalan Persiaran Senawang 1 near here at 8.30pm on March 6. The charge under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 carries a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, upon conviction. The accused had also claimed trial to another charge of driving without a valid licence. He was charged under Section 26(1) of the same Act, which carries a fine of between RM300 and RM2,000, imprisonment of up to three months or both, upon conviction. Johan said his client will also be filing a representation for this charge. The court fixed June 26 to hear the outcome of the representations.

SEREMBAN, May 21 (Bernama) -- The driver of a Honda Jazz charged with causing the death of three teenagers due to dangerous driving last March will submit a representation to the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) for a review of the charges made against him. Lawyer Johan Radzi, representing the 17-year-old accused, informed Magistrate Nurul Azuin Mohd Talhah when the case came up for mention today. The prosecution, represented by Prosecuting Officer, ASP M. Shanmugavell, said they were prepared to hand over the documents to the defence.
