Business as usual at Cheras mall after fatal shooting
KUALA LUMPUR: It was business as usual at a Cheras mall today, less than a day after two men were shot dead outside the building.
The mall, popular with Chinese tourists and home to several nightclubs, showed no visible signs of disruption.
"There is a bit of worry because there's already been a shooting. But today, things look just the same," said Megat Hud, 38, a sales associate at an electronics store.
He was shocked by the incident, which occurred just after midnight, but said there had been no change in security presence.
"There are clubs here that run until late, but nothing like this has ever happened before," he added.
Mall visitor Nurul Fitriana, 31, a construction administration officer, said she was stunned by the incident but not surprised that business remained unaffected.
"I was really shocked, how did that happen?
"But this place is always busy. I don't know if it's connected to anything, but it's not unusual to have a crowd even at night," she said.
Nearby, convenience store staff said they were frightened during the shooting and immediately locked their front doors when they heard the gunfire.
A mall worker who has spent a decade in the area said this was the first such incident he had seen.
"I'm in the security line, I've gotten used to things like this. But of course, it was still shocking," he said.
Police said the two victims were approaching their car inside the mall compound when they were shot by suspects wearing helmets.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Despite the fatal shooting, many workers and visitors said they would carry on with their routines — albeit more cautiously.
