Demir Ege Tiknaz to Celtic transfer takes a twist as Champions League regulars go back in for Matt O'Riley
Reports in Turkey over the weekend had touted the Besiktas ace as a potential option for Brendan Rodgers' side Besiktas midfielder Demir Ege Tiknaz is NOT a summer transfer target for Celtic - according to a report. Over the weekend, sources in Turkey had linked the Hoops with a move for the €10million (£8.4million) rated player, who will return to the Turkish capital next month after spending last season on loan with Rio Ave in Portugal. Tiknaz, 20, is a product of the Beskitas' youth academy and has already picked up two domestic cup medals with his boyhood club. However, the Hoops' interest in the Turkey U21 international has now been completely shot down. CeltsAreHere claim that Tiknaz is not on the transfer radar at Lennoxtown even though boss Brendan Rodgers and his recruitment team are keen to bolster their ranks in the middle third of the pitch. The Irishman is also very keen to recruit a new striker to help fill the void left by Kyogo Furuhashi 's £10million departure to Rennes back in January. Slovan Bratislava's David Strelec and Royal Antwerp frontman Michel-Ange Balikwisha have both been linked, with Celtic seeing a £7million bid for the former knocked back in the winter window. Elsewhere, Matt O'Riley could be on the move again less than 12 months after making a big money move to Brighton from Celtic Park. The Denmark international banked the Hoops £25million when he joined the Seagulls last August after two and a half prolific seasons in Glasgow's East End. However, despite scoring a winning goal against reigning league champions Manchester City, a combination of injuries and a lack of form saw the playmaker struggle to hold down a regular starting berth in Fabian Hurzeler's side. O'Riley has already been touted as a potential target for Serie A giants Roma and La Gazzetta dello Sport (Europa Calcio) now report that Atalanta are back in for the former Fulham kid. The 2024 Europa League winners were heavily linked with O'Riley last summer before he opted to make the move down south with Brighton. Atalanta will have a new man in the dugout next season after replacing Gian Piero Gasperini - who has taken up the reins at Roma - with ex Southampton boss Ivan Juric. Celtic fans will be keeping a keen eye on the situation, with the Hoops reportedly holding a 10 per cent sell on clause - on O'Riley's next transfer. Matt O'Riley transfer uncertainty as Everton 'keen' on ex-Celtic star
It's claimed the Premier League club would be interested in signing the Brighton midfielder just one year on from his move from Celtic. O'Riley endured a staggered season for Brighton with injuries impacting his availability and limited minutes when fit under Fabian Hurzeler. Sky Sports now reports Everton would be interested in a deal for O'Riley should Brighton sanction a transfer exit this summer. According to the outlet, it is unclear whether Brighton would allow a deal and be willing to sell the midfielder. It's thought O'Riley is viewed as a player prepared to make a telling contribution at the club next season. O'Riley notched two goals and three assists in his debut season in the Premier League. He also started six of the last eight games for the club last season. Read more: It comes after reports O'Riley is a transfer target for clubs in Italy, Germany and sides in the Premier League. Fabrizio Romano posted last month: "Matt O'Riley could be one to watch in the summer as Brighton midfielder is now attracting interest from Serie A, Bundesliga, Premier League clubs. "Approaches started eyeing an opportunity on the market to try sign the talented central midfielder." A potential O'Riley transfer this summer could have consequences for Celtic. Indeed, the Parkhead club were said to have been given a 10 per cent sell-on fee when they sold the 24-year-old last year.

Matt O'Riley's Brighton future ‘uncertain' as Premier League rivals target Celtic hero just nine months after £25m move
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) IT hasn't even been a year since Matt O'Riley sealed a bumper exit from Celtic for £25million. But just nine months on from his megabucks switch to Brighton, the midfielder could be on the move again. Sign up for the Celtic newsletter Sign up 3 Matt O'Riley scored for Brighton against Tottenham on the final day of the season Credit: EPA 3 His spell with the Seagulls got off to a nightmare start Credit: Getty 3 The midfielder was a star man at Celtic Credit: PA O'Riley had established himself as Celtic's main man and enjoyed a stunning 2023/24 campaign. He scored 18 goals in 37 Scottish Premiership appearances as the Hoops retained the league title in Brendan Rodgers' first season back as manager. O'Riley had been a revelation at Celtic Park following his £1.5million switch from third tier English side MK Dons back in January 2022 under Ange Postecoglou. His performances quickly caught the attention and by the time the summer transfer window came around last year, it looked like an uphill battle for Celtic to keep the fans' favourite at Parkhead. And so it turned out, as in late August, O'Riley sealed a Scottish record £25m-plus transfer to Brighton and he signed a five-year contract. The big move began in nightmare fashion for the Denmark international. He made his debut in an EFL Cup clash against Crawley the day after completing his move but lasted just nine minutes. A horror tackle resulted in O'Riley having to undergo ankle surgery and he wasn't able to return to action until November. He made his comeback in style, netting a late winner for the Seagulls in a memorable 2-1 win over Manchester City. All in all, however, it was a frustrating season for O'Riley. Matt O'Riley limps off just minutes into Brighton debut after horror Crawley tackle Despite returning to fitness, he failed to hold down a regular starting spot in Fabian Hurzeler's side. Carlos Baleba has been a first pick in the German boss' midfield, while January signing Diego Gomez has also slotted in since his arrival from Inter Miami. The likes of Yasin Ayari, Brajan Gruda and Jack Hinshelwood have also been used more regularly. That's meant O'Riley has largely been restricted to a substitute's role although he did mange a few more starts towards the end of the season, starting six of the last eight matches. O'Riley netted from the spot in the final day 4-1 win over Tottenham after coming off the bench. He's already been linked with an exit from Brighton this summer, with unnamed clubs from England, Germany and Italy credited with an ongoing interest in him. Now, Sky Sports claim that Everton are 'keen' on signing O'Riley should Brighton be willing to let him leave. The report says that there is 'uncertainty' surrounding his future but that the Seagulls also believe O'Riley can play a significant role next season. Meanwhile, Everton have also been linked with a move for Rangers star Mohamed Diomande. The 23-year old joined the Light Blues on an initial loan deal from Danish club Nordsjaelland in January 2024, before the move was made permanent last summer. Diomande is under contract at Ibrox until 2028. Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Celtic hero Matt O'Riley could make shock Brighton exit after one year as clubs from three countries eye midfielder
MATT O'RILEY could leave Brighton after just one year with the Premier League club, according to a shock report. The Danish international left Celtic to seal a record-breaking move to the Seagulls last August but things haven't quite worked out for the midfielder down south as of yet. 2 Matt O'Riley hasn't managed to hit the same numbers down south as he did in Glasgow Credit: PA 2 O'Riley celebrates scoring winner against Man City in November Credit: AP O'Riley, 24, has made just 12 starts in all competitions since joining the club as he's struggled to tie down a regular spot under manager Fabian Hurzeler. His dream move turned into a nightmare just days following his arrival after he was struck down with a horror injury just EIGHT minutes into his debut. He was thrown in from the start in the EFL Cup against Crawley Town in August and was forced off early doors after being on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from Crawley's Jay Williams. O'Riley was sidelined for two months before eventually making his Premier League bow against Man City in November - where he scored the winner against Pep Guardiola's men with a stunning late strike. Many believed that outing was the start of something special for the playmaker at the American Express Stadium. But he hasn't managed to replicate those heroics since, and that has been his only goal in a Brighton shirt - despite starting the last six Premier League games. Now there's a chance he could play his final game for the club when they take on Tottenham Hotspur - managed by his former manager Ange Postecoglou - on May 25. That's because transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed he could be on his way out of Brighton this summer. It's suggested that clubs from across Europe have been keeping tabs on the midfielder with some sides 'readying summer approaches' for him. He states that clubs from the Serie A and Bundesliga are interested, along with Premier League rivals of Brighton. No clubs have been named in the report but O'Riley did attract interest from the likes of Inter Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and Roma before Brighton swooped in. Rangers require up to SEVEN new players in summer rebuild if club is to challenge Celtic next season, says former Ibrox striker Kris Boyd
Kris Boyd insists Rangers will need to sign at least seven new players in the summer if they are to challenge Celtic for the Premiership title next season. After another season of failure on and off the pitch, the Ibrox club have been blown away as their Old Firm rivals wrapped up the league with four games still to play. Following the 2-2 draw at St Mirren last weekend, interim manager Barry Ferguson admitted that every Rangers player is now playing for their future ahead of a huge summer rebuild. With fresh investment on the cards if the takeover deal with 49ers Enterprises is completed, Boyd insists his old club can't afford to make a mess of their summer recruitment. Referencing the way Celtic were able to rebuild quickly under Ange Postecoglou following the botched ten-in-a-row season, Boyd said: 'People look at how quickly Celtic did it. 'I think when you go back to Celtic and everybody was expecting them to do 10 in a row, it was the end of an era for Celtic in terms of a lot of the boys there. 'But there was also a lot of guys there who you felt could go again. It helps when you have got the money but they spent it wisely. 'Everybody looks at it and says: 'It's easy this season when you think of Arne Engels at £11million, Adam Idah at £9m, Auston Trusty at £7m. Everybody looks at those three and you think Celtic are blowing everybody out the water with that. 'But Celtic's recruitment on the other side as well. Matt O'Riley £1.5m, Reo Hatate £1.5m. The £20m brought in for O'Riley [sale to Brighton] came from that. 'The smaller fees were spot-on and that allowed them to then progress and bring in more money. 'I'm not saying it's a higher quality of player, but they've been able to spend bigger transfer fees. 'Rangers have spent money. Mohamed Diomande cost the same as Daizen Maeda, Hatate and O'Riley [combined]. Cyriel Dessers and Kyogo Furuhashi, the same price. Boyd was joined by a host of fellow former footballers at the iconic Trump Turnberry golf resort 'Any football club or any manager will tell you the recruitment is key and, this summer more than ever for Rangers, it's got to be spot-on. You can't afford any mistakes or project players. 'Rangers need to get, I would say, at least six or seven first-team starters that are going to come in and make a difference. 'These players need to change the mindset within Rangers in terms of thinking that you're just going to turn up and win games of football. 'You need to earn the right to win games of football and right now that's not the case at Ibrox.' After the draw at St Mirren last weekend, interim boss Ferguson admitted that Rangers have now lost their 'fear factor'. With Celtic due at Ibrox on Sunday, Rangers will try to salvage some kind of positive from the campaign by claiming what would be a third league win over their rivals this season. With sporting director Kevin Thelwell due to take charge of football operations in the summer, Boyd believes the lack of leadership is a key area that needs to be addressed. 'For what Rangers are spending, they should be well ahead of the rest,' said Boyd. 'Barry Ferguson is just saying what all other fans are feeling. 'There are times when Rangers raise their game to a good level, then other times when they look bang-average. 'Whether the club is too big for a lot of them... because some of the performances have been absolutely nowhere near the level required for Rangers. 'Someone needs to get a grip of the whole football club and realise it's not been good enough. It's not been good enough for a number of years now. 'The thing that jumps out every single year with Rangers right now seems to be you get to knockout stages of European football and everybody's buzzing. 'You've got some fantastic trips in there, you've had some fantastic games against teams in Europe and everybody will celebrate that. 'But the reality is it's just papered over the cracks. Domestically, it's been absolutely miles off it and continues to be miles off it. 'Everybody goes on about the captain as such and what he does. But if you look at any successful team, yes there's the captain with the armband, but he also has another seven or eight leaders around him. 'They are the guys who can drag the rest of the team with them. Even on an off-day, they will drag the rest of the team to a result. 'But I don't see that in this Rangers team right now. I don't see enough leaders. At Rangers, every other team wants to beat you. You need to be big enough to deal with that.' *Kris Boyd was speaking at his annual charity golf day at Trump Turnberry. Boyd has been raising awareness and funds for mental health since 2017.
