West Alabama adds former Alabama TE OJ Howard to new-look coaching staff
West Alabama adds former Alabama TE OJ Howard to new-look coaching staff He's won and excelled at every level of 🏈! A National Champion, Multiple Time SEC Champion, and Super Bowl Champion joins the staff‼️ Everyone join us in welcoming O.J. Howard to our UWA Family! 📰: — West Alabama FB (@uwa_football) March 11, 2025 For the second time this week, the West Alabama football program has tapped into the Crimson Tide pipeline as they have named former TE O.J. Howard as the program's Director of Player Development. Howard joins fellow former Alabama standout Blake Sims in Livingston, AL who agreed to be the team's wide receiver coach over the weekend. Scott Cochran, the former Alabama strength and conditioning coach, is now the head coach of the Tigers and is doing a great job of bringing in football minds. Ronnie Clark and Thomas Fletcher are both also on his staff. Howard was sensational during his time with the Crimson Tide as he appeared in 46 games, won a national title and was named the CFP National Championship Game Offensive MVP before being selected No. 19 overall in the 2017 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Howard spent six seasons in the NFL totaling 129 receptions, 1,882 yards and 17 TDs. He last appeared for the Texans in 2022, so this move probably ends his NFL career. His first day with the program will officially be on April 1st, but I think O.J. is a perfect personality for this role.

Fast forward eight years after he was drafted, O.J. Howard is transitioning to a new chapter in his football life. The University of West Alabama announced on Tuesday that the former Bucs tight end was joining the program as its Director of Player Development. He's won and excelled at every level of 🏈!
