Former ODOC officer sentenced to 15 years in prison

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A former officer with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) will now be behind bars, after pleading guilty to raping two inmates. ODOC says they have seen instances like this take place before, but are doing everything they can to filter out the bad officers to try and prevent these kinds of acts from continuing to happen. The Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) is committed to zero-tolerance standard towards all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment between employees and offenders. The Office of Inspector General oversees the agency's efforts, including PREA investigations under the Prison Rape Elimination Act. Inmate safety and security are a top priority and all accusations are treated with the same respect and urgency. We have policies and procedures in place to investigate every accusation swiftly and thoroughly. Those policies are accessible for public review on the ODOC website. Oklahoma Department of Corrections Former correctional officer arrested on rape charges D'Shaunn Dixon was a correctional officer at the Mabel Bassett Correctional Center in McLoud, but now he is facing prison time. In March 2024, Dixon was arrested and fired after ODOC received a video from another inmate that showed what appeared to be Dixon and an inmate having sex. Regarding the alleged incident at Mabel Bassett Correctional Center, the agency was already investigating the inmate's accusations well before receiving the cellphone footage. Having the video certainly assisted our agents in expediting the officer's arrest and termination. Oklahoma Department of Corrections Court documents go on to say that during an interview, the inmate told investigators that Dixon would bring her drugs in exchange for sexual favors. Shortly after Dixon's arrest last March, prosecutors say another inmate came forward saying that they were a victim too. Instead of going to trial, Dixon chose to plead guilty instead to two separate rape charges. He was given a 15-year sentence with five years suspended, which means he could get out in 10 years if he doesn't have any setbacks while in prison. Dixon will also have to register as a sex offender. When reaching out to the ODOC, leaders say that they do not have a comment on these new developments. News 4 also reached out to Dixon's attorney, but did not hear back. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
