CGEM Urges Morocco's Private Sector to Grant June 9 Holiday for Eid Al Adha
Rabat – Chakib Alj, the President of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), has urged the private sector companies to grant employees a day off on Monday, June 9, aligning with the public sector, in celebration of Eid Al-Adha, which will take place on Saturday, June 7 in Morocco. Last week, the government decided to exceptionally suspend work in state administrations and local authorities on Monday, June 9. CGEM called on companies to follow suit, noting: 'We invite, as far as possible, private sector companies to also grant Monday, June 9, as a day off to their employees,' Alj said. Eid Al Adha falls on the tenth day of Dhu Al Hijjah, the 12th and final month of the Islamic lunar calendar. The Islamic month marks Eid Al Adha or the sacrifice feast, which commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah's command. Dhu Al Hijjah also marks the Hajj pilgrimage, which will commence on June 4. While the feast is a sacred and special time in Morocco, Moroccans will celebrate it differently this time. In February, Morocco announced its decision to cancel the Eid Al Adha sacrifice ritual due to drought and a notable decrease in the country's livestock population due to dry seasons that affected Morocco's agriculture sector for six years in a row. This is not the first time Morocco has canceled the Eid Al Adha sacrifice ritual. The first time dates back to 1963 when the late King Hassan II announced the cancellation of the sacrifice ritual during the Sand War between Morocco and Algeria, as it affected the two countries' economies. The second time was in 1981, and the cancellation was due to drought, as well as in 1996. Last week, ONCF announced that it has expanded the train schedule ahead of Eid Al Adha from May 30 to June 15 to help travelers move easily and safely during the holiday. The program includes up to 237 trains per day across the national network. ONCF also pledged to add extra trains on the main routes to help passengers during busy times. ONCF Awarded ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Certification for All Operations
Rabat – Morocco's National Railways Office (ONCF) has announced receiving the ISO 37001 certification for its Anti-Bribery Management System. The certificate was granted on March 3 and covers all ONCF activities and work sites across the country, the company said in a press release. It added that the Moroccan Institute for Standardization (IMANOR) issued the certification after a thorough audit carried out between January 27 and 29 this year. The ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Certification is an internationally recognized standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to help organizations prevent, detect, and address bribery. It was published in 2016 to provide a framework for establishing, implementing, maintaining, and improving an anti-bribery management system (ABMS). ONCF says this recognition reflects its strong commitment to ethics, transparency, and responsible governance. By obtaining the ISO 37001 certificate, ONCF says it aims to build a workplace culture based on integrity and the prevention of bribery risks, following the best international practices. The anti-bribery system features a defined policy that aligns with international standards. It includes a comprehensive framework for preventing and managing bribery risks, a system for identifying and handling conflicts of interest, continuous training and awareness programs for employees, and a secure whistleblowing mechanism that promotes transparency and accountability across the organization. ONCF also stated that it has carefully identified, analyzed, and addressed all bribery-related risks as part of its continuous improvement strategy. This certification reflects the collaborative efforts and strong mobilization of its teams, the company noted, concluding that it marks an important milestone in reinforcing good governance and a strong ethical foundation within the organization.

Morocco approves $10.3bln rail expansion
Morocco's King Mohammed VI has approved an AED96bn ($10.3bn) rail expansion plan, including the construction of a high-speed line to Marrakesh by 2030, state media reported. The project forms part of Morocco's preparations to co-host the 2030 World Cup with Spain and Portugal, which has accelerated plans to expand the country's high-speed, intercity and urban rail networks. The country also hopes the investments will help develop its nascent rail industry. New high-speed line to Marrakesh The new high-speed line, worth AED53bn, will start from Kenitra on the Atlantic coast and run 430 kilometres south to Marrakesh, serving Rabat and Casablanca along the way. Designed for a speed of 350 kilometres per hour, the line will cut the journey between Marrakesh and Tangier by two hours, to 2 hours and 40 minutes, while travel time between Rabat and Casablanca's main airport will be reduced to 35 minutes. Moroccan state-owned rail operator ONCF announced in February that it had signed deals to purchase 168 trains from France, Spain and South Korea for AED29bn. France's Alstom will supply ONCF with Avelia Horizon double-decker high-speed trains that can carry 640 passengers and cruise at a speed of 320 kilometres per hour. The other trains are mainly intercity and urban trains, with ONCF planning to double the number of cities it serves to 43, covering 87% of the Moroccan population by 2040. The purchase deals also include investments in the country's rail industry. All rights reserved. © 2022. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail, New Lever to Bolster National Economy
The Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail, construction of which His Majesty King Mohammed VI kicked off on Thursday, will be a major new lever to support the national economy at all levels, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh said. In a statement to the press on this occasion, Kayouh explained that this structuring project will reduce travel times between some of the Kingdom's major cities, saving time up to 70% compared with current commute times. This large-scale project will significantly ease citizens' mobility, provide better connections between major conurbations, notably Rabat, Casablanca and Marrakech, and serve some of the Kingdom's main airports, he said. The Kenitra-Marrakech High-Speed Rail project, with a budget of MAD 53 billion (excluding rolling stock), is part of an ambitious program mobilizing an overall investment of MAD 96 billion, which also includes the acquisition of 168 trains at a cost of MAD 29 billion, intended to renew the existing fleet of the Moroccan National Railways Office (ONCF) and support development projects, as well as maintaining performance for MAD 14 billion, enabling in particular the development of 3 metropolitan transport networks in the Casablanca, Rabat and Marrakech conurbations.
