High School Standouts: A pitcher's stellar effort, a team's tremendous triumph
Southside Christian junior lefthander Carson Boleman tossed his third no-hitter of the season (and fifth of his Sabres career) in Wednesday night's 3-0 win over Oceanside Collegiate, a victory that claimed SCS's first 3A baseball state championship and their fourth straight overall. The Sabres claimed the 1A state title in their final three years in that classification after being moved up this past year. Boleman's effort included 19 strikeouts among the 21 outs that he recorded. On the season, he has a 0.00 ERA and allowed just two unearned runs and six hits over the course of the campaign. Byrnes' 9-8 walk-off win over Summerville Wednesday night ended the Green Wave's 83-game winning streak and extended the 5A Division I softball state championship series. A decisive third game is scheduled for Friday night at White Knoll near Columbia. The victory was sealed when seventh-grader Garrison Aiken reached on a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 7th inning. Her mother Brandi is the longtime Rebels head coach. Byrnes was also provided the previous loss for Summerville early in the 2023 season. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
