Finally Finished: The Off-Road Dodge Viper Is Done, Sort Of
Read the full story on Backfire News From the time it was first revealed we were intrigued and admittedly shocked by the Off-Road Viper. Built by car YouTuber SuperfastMatt, who provided plenty of sarcastic commentary on the evolution of the trail-ready snake, we grew to somewhat love the oddity. Now it's finally complete enough, we can sit back and admire the somewhat finished says he's notorious for never fully finishing projects. Some he lets sit for years, but it sounds like he's going to keep tinkering with the Off-Road Viper, making little changes moving forward. Still, the man is calling the exotic rig done enough. The final crowning achievement that makes the Viper buttoned up enough is the addition of covers for the side exhausts. Getting third degree burns on your legs is never a fun experience. Plus, it will help unify the look of the vehicle. Using the same building method he did for the front and rear bumpers, SuperfastMatt went with sheet metal bent in a blocky fashion and painted black, a real contrast to the svelte red body of the Viper. When we first saw the Off-Road Viper, it didn't have the trail-ready bumpers. Since those were added it looked more the part of a rig, but these exhaust covers really tie everything together. As SuperfastMatt explains, he struggled with getting the dimensions right for his taste. Once this build hit actual dirt, instead of just cruising roads and attracting the attention of bored cops, it was apparent it was as much a bad idea as we expected. While it smoked a Ford Raptor in a drag race, the thing struggled with obstacles and anything technical. Still, watching this Viper take shape over time has been entertaining. We bet SuperfastMatt had much more fun and experienced plenty of frustration. Image via SuperfastMatt/YouTube

YouTuber Creates A Radio Controlled Smart Fortwo
Read the full story on Backfire News We love seeing people create weird things and making a Smart Fortwo into an RC car definitely qualifies. That's what one of our favorite YouTubers, SuperfastMatt – the creator of the Off-Road Viper, did recently and he shared the interesting process, or at least part of it with us, RC cars are still a lot of fun. You can really thrash the things, take them off jumps, crash them, etc. and about the only thing that could happen is you have to do is replace some cheap parts. That's much better than playing with full-size cars where the parts can also be pricey. But a Smart Fortwo doesn't qualify as a real car, let's be honest here, so turning it into an RC vehicle just makes sense. After all, what are you going to do, drive it down the road? Who would honestly want to do a thing like that? SuperfastMatt was right in assuming trying to drive the car on public roads using an RC controller with nobody inside would be a bad idea. He could've gotten in some serious legal trouble, just in case anyone is getting some bright ideas here (translation: if you do decide to turn a full-size car into an RC vehicle, don't drive it on public roads). So the YouTuber took his creation out to the open desert in California and immediately broke his new toy repeatedly. If you're laughing, it's because you've done the same thing before. It really sucks. When he finally got the setup working enough, he realized the controllers he had didn't quite work for precision driving. In other words, his design isn't ready for prime time or anything other than the lawlessness of the open desert. It's a fun video, so check it out. Images via SuperfastMatt/YouTube
