I saw John Legend perform at Glasgow's Hydro
US singer John Legend brought soul to the Hydro on Tuesday night by performing an intimate set to a smaller crowd than the arena is used to. A trio of backing singers signalled his entrance by teasing vocals before the Ohio-born star appeared dressed in a satin suit. He then asked: 'What's up Glasgow?' - before demanding, 'Get on your feet, c'mon,' to perform Get Lifted. (Image: John Legend performs at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, May 2025. Picture by Calum Buchan.) (Image: John Legend performs at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, May 2025. Picture by Calum Buchan.) Used to Love You - the 2004 debut he wrote and produced with rapper Kanye West - then followed. With a little swagger, he then launched into the tracks that featured on his 2004 debut Get Lifted including the Snoop Dogg featured I Can Change and Alright. The night was about celebrating the two decades since that album's release, and vocally Legend has never sounded better. This was particularly evident when he took it back to church for a performance of Take My Hand, Precious Lord. His voice was just beautiful. (Image: John Legend performs at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, May 2025. Picture by Calum Buchan.) (Image: John Legend performs at the Ovo Hydro in Glasgow, May 2025. Picture by Calum Buchan.) He then laughed: 'I am having so much fun going back 20 years with you all.' This moment marked the start of him reminiscing about his career. He revealed he played piano when he was just starting out on Lauren Hill's Everything is Everything before demonstrating the beat he created with his voice for Kanye's Jesus Walks - which featured on the rapper's debut The College Dropout - and the sound was quite something. He also boasted his CV included writing credits on Estelle's American Boy while he sang background vocals on Alicia Keys' You Don't Know My Name. This section of the show lifted the mood instantly as the atmosphere up until that point had been rather lacklustre. A crowd that small in the Hydro just gets lost, and it showed. Surprising a fan, he got her on stage for a dance, and she seized the moment making the audience laugh. Finishing things off, he showed off his own dance moves again on Green Light which featured Outkast's Andre 3000 while All of Me was the moment of the night. He signed off: 'It's been so beautiful hanging out with you.'

Mike Myers, Dawn Richard, Lauren London and Kid Cudi named in Diddy trial. Here's why
The trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs is underway, in what is expected to be a closely watched and scandal-ridden celebrity trial. Combs is on trial for an array of federal charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts. At the start of trial, potential jurors were given a list of people and places related to one of the biggest names in music, in hopes of excluding individuals with too-close ties to the mogul's massive web of connections – a unique challenge. The names included Michael B. Jordan, Kid Cudi, Cassie Ventura Fine, singer Michelle Williams, Mike Myers, Dallas Austin, Lauren London and Dawn Richard. The list, a who's who of Hollywood and music elite, paints a picture of Combs' far-reaching influence in the entertainment industry. Now with a jury set and witness testimony revealing new details about Combs' alleged dealings, the public is learning more about just how embedded he truly is. Diddy on trial newsletter: Step inside the courtroom as music mogul faces sex-crimes charges. Known for the hit track "Me & U," the lead single off her self-titled (and only) studio album, Ventura Fine is the prosecution's star witness after alleging in a bombshell lawsuit in 2023 that Combs had trafficked, sexually assaulted and physically abused her during their decadelong relationship. The two "amicably" settled the lawsuit a day after her filing. The former Bad Boy Records artist, who'd been dating the hip-mogul since she was 19, was on the stand for four days in Week 1, tearfully testifying about the alleged control he had over her career, the volatility of the producer's moods and the frequent emotional, psychological and physical abuse she faced. She has also revealed details about the drug-fueled "freak offs" they participated in, her eight-figure settlement and Diddy's previously unknown opioid overdose in 2012. Kid Cudi was briefly romantically involved with Ventura Fine, Combs' ex-girlfriend. The singer testified on May 14 that her 2011 romance with Cudi, born Scott Mescudi, angered Combs and sparked a violent outburst. The Ohio-born rapper was first mentioned in Ventura Fine's bombshell 2023 civil lawsuit against Combs, with Cassie citing an alleged incident in which Combs threatened to "blow up" Cudi's vehicle, seemingly in retaliation for his relationship with Ventura Fine. Cassie alleges Diddy assaulted and threatened her over Kid Cudi relationship The alleged arson incident also appeared to be part of prosecutors' case against Combs. Ventura Fine said in court that Combs discovered the relationship after going through her phone. Per Ventura Fine's account, Combs became angry and lunged at Cassie with a wine bottle opener between his fingers, but she said she managed to escape and went to a hotel, where she contacted Kid Cudi using a burner phone. She added that Combs threatened that he was "going to hurt Scott and I." USA TODAY has reached out to Kid Cudi's rep for comment. Ventura Fine touched on a connection to actor Michael B. Jordan as Combs' attorneys scrutinized Cassie's other relationships in court May 15. Ventura Fine said Combs suspected that she was in a relationship with the Emmy-nominated actor after the pair broke up in 2015, per Fox News. At the time of their split, the singer-actress was filming a movie in South Africa. (Cassie starred in the musical drama "Honey 3: Dare to Dance," which was set in South Africa and reportedly concluded filming in December 2015.) Dawn Richard, a former member of the Combs-founded groups Danity Kane and Diddy – Dirty Money, is likely on the list as she filed a lawsuit last year alleging she witnessed his abuse of Ventura Fine and was also sexually assaulted, falsely imprisoned and deprived food, sleep and pay by the "Bad Boy Records" founder. Actress Lauren London, who also appears on the list, has been open about Combs' support for her in the wake of the death of her late partner, rapper Nipsey Hussle. Dallas Austin, a fellow music producer, came up in the business at a similar time to Combs, and may have made the list for his close childhood relationship with late model Kim Porter, a longtime romantic partner of Diddy's. Austin was also mentioned as one of the attendees of Ventura Fine's 21st birthday party. It is not immediately clear why Destiny's Child singer Williams or actor Myers made the list, though there is a brief segment in "Austin Powers," among Myers' most famous movies, that pokes fun at the music mogul. USA TODAY has reached out to all of their reps for comment. Combs is facing federal sex-crimes and trafficking charges in a sprawling suit that has eroded his status as a power player and kingmaker in the entertainment industry. He was arrested in September 2024 and has been charged with racketeering, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all five counts. The trial will not be televised, as cameras are typically not allowed in federal criminal trial proceedings. USA TODAY will be reporting live from the courtroom. Mike Myers. Kid Cudi. Dawn Richard. What do these names have to do with the Diddy trial?
The trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs kicked off May 5, cracking the seal on what is expected to be a closely watched and scandal-ridden celebrity trial. Potential jurors shuffled into a Manhattan courtroom on a gray Monday in New York City as lawyers for both sides prepared to winnow down the class of people who will be entrusted with the fate of one of the biggest names in music. Combs is on trial for an array of federal charges, including sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts. Diddy trial live updates: Potential jurors given list of celebrities connected to Combs Finding a group of jurors unfamiliar with Combs, who once ruled the world of hip-hop, and his recent legal struggles presents a unique challenge − a fact evident in the questions posted to potential candidates. In addition to questions about a history of sexual assault, jurors were given a list of people and places related to Combs in some ways. The names included Michael B. Jordan, Kid Cudi, Cassie Ventura, Michelle Williams, Mike Myers, Dallas Austin, Lauren London and Dawn Richard. : Step inside the courtroom with USA TODAY as Sean 'Diddy' Combs faces sex crimes and trafficking charges. Subscribe to the newsletter. The list, a who's who of Hollywood and music elite, paints a picture of Combs' far-reaching influence in the entertainment industry. Kid Cudi, an Ohio-born rapper who was briefly romantically involved with Combs' ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, is likely on the list as a 2023 civil lawsuit from Ventura against Combs accused the hip-hop mogul of threatening to blow up Cudi's car. (Ventura and Kid Cudi briefly dated 'during a rough patch' in her relationship with Combs, she said.) Cudi's vehicle later allegedly exploded in his driveway around the time Ventua alleges Combs made the threat. The alleged arson incident also appeared to be part of prosecutors' case against Combs. In a Sept. 17 letter to the judge, the U.S. attorney for New York's Southern District claimed that in early January 2012, Combs' "co-conspirators set fire to" an unnamed individual's vehicle "by slicing open the car's convertible top and dropping a Molotov cocktail inside the interior." Rolling Stone reported a Los Angeles City Fire Department report confirmed Kid Cudi's Porsche was set on fire by an 'incendiary device' on Jan. 9, 2012, in Los Angeles. In a 2023 statement to The New York Times, Kid Cudi confirmed Cassie's claim that his car had exploded. USA TODAY has reached out to Kid Cudi's rep for comment. Jurors already thrown out in Diddy trial as judge seeks unbiased group Ventura, who is also on the list, alleged in a bombshell lawsuit in 2023 that Combs had trafficked, sexually assaulted and physically abused her during their decade-long relationship. The two 'amicably' settled the lawsuit a day after Cassie's filing, and Combs' team alluded to a 'substantial eight-figure settlement" in court documents for his criminal case. Last May, a 2016 hotel surveillance video exclusively shared by CNN showed Combs kicking, hitting and dragging the singer – actions that were first described in her legal complaint. Days later, Combs issued a video apology, saying he took "full responsibility for my actions in that video." Richard, a former member of the girl group Danity Kane, is likely on the list as she filed a lawsuit last year alleging she witnessed Combs' abuse of Ventura and was also sexually assaulted and deprived food, sleep and pay by the "Bad Boy Records" founder. Dallas Austin, a fellow music producer, came up in the business at a similar time to Combs, and may have made the list for his close childhood relationship with Kim Porter, a longtime romantic partner of Diddy's. It is not immediately clear why Williams, Jordan or Myers made the list, though there is a brief segment in "Austin Powers," among Myers' most famous movies, that pokes fun at the music mogul. USA TODAY has reached out to all of their reps for comment. Diddy could have ruled Met Gala 2025. Instead, he's awaiting his sex-crimes trial. Combs is charged with two counts of sex trafficking, two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and one count of racketeering. Federal authorities claim Combs turned his "multi-faceted business empire" into a "criminal enterprise" in which he and his associates engaged in kidnapping, arson and physical violence, sex trafficking and forced labor, among other alleged crimes. Yes. If convicted on the racketeering charge, Combs could face life in prison, while the statutory minimum sentence for sex trafficking is 15 years and for transportation to engage in prostitution is a maximum of 10 years. The disgraced music mogul is already in custody, and, despite repeated attempts at bail, has remained confined to the Special Housing Unit in Brooklyn's Metropolitan Detention Center. He has been in jail since his arrest on Sept. 16, 2024. Handel's Ice Cream is opening in Burbank—and offering free scoops for a year
For eight decades, Ohio-born ice cream chain Handel's Ice Cream has been satisfying sweet tooths with its freshly made scoops and more than 100 flavors (from Banana Cream Pie to Blueberry Cheesecake Chunk, from Caramel Pretzel Crunch to Cinnamon Graham Cracker). In fact, Handel's is so beloved, it was named "No. 1 Ice Cream on the Planet" by National Geographic. So imagine our excitement when we heard that not only Handel's Ice Cream would be opening a new parlor in Burbank, but that they'll be celebrating the store opening with free ice cream—for an entire year. Yes, a new Handel's Ice Cream location will be churning away at 353 N. Pass Ave. in Burbank, CA beginning on Thursday, May 15, coinciding with the brand's 80th anniversary. Led by husband-and-wife team Phil and Molly Kaye, the 2,100-square-foot new outpost will offer Handel's signature ice cream made freshly on premises, with 48 rotating flavors including seasonal selections and beloved classics like Black Cherry, Blue Monster, Butter Pecan and Rocky Mocha Blast. 'We opened our first location a year ago in Los Feliz, within walking distance from our home, and we loved it so much, that we wanted to do it again,' said Phil Kaye, co-owner of the Burbank Handel's Ice Cream. 'Molly and I are finding new things to love in every step of the process. We have an amazing team that's excited to make and scoop ice cream. They're just as enthusiastic as we are about connecting with customers and bringing a little simple pleasure and happiness into whatever is happening in their lives.' And speaking of simple pleasures, to celebrate the grand opening, the first 50 guests to arrive at the Burbank location will receive a special offer of free ice cream for a year. Yes, a whole year. (Some fine print: Sorry kiddos, you must be 18 years or older to receive the free ice cream for a year offer.) Operating hours for Handel's new Burbank location are Sunday through Wednesday from noon to 10pm, and Thursday through Saturday from noon to 11pm, so make sure to set that early reminder for free ice cream on Thursday!
